Dr. Ọbádélé Kambon completed his PhD in Linguistics at the University of Ghana in 2012, winning the prestigious Vice Chancellor’s award for Most Outstanding PhD Thesis.

He is a Research Fellow in the Language, Literature and Drama section of the Institute of African Studies at the University of Ghana. Dr. Kambon is currently Editor-in-Chief of the Ghana Journal of Linguistics (GJL) and Secretary of The African Studies Association of Africa (ASAA).

Along with the responsibility of being a husband and father of three lovely children, he speaks and teaches numerous African languages as well as African history. A conversation with 2 Afrikans, born in the diaspora who have returned to the Motherland to live. We will explores the highs, lows, joys & challenges of this unique experience. Born in the UK, Sister Shakina Chinedu returned to the Gambia in 2016. Earlier this year, sister Shakina Chinedu went viral for her interview on Gambia TV & her campaign to gain citizenship for disaporans in the Gambia. Obadele Kambon is a Senior Research Fellow at the Institute of African Studies (I wish it was called Pan-Afrikan Studies) at the University of Ghana. From activist roots in the USA, Brother Ọbádélé has Ghanaian citizenship and assisted 33 other Afrikans in receiving their Ghanaian citizenship as well. He assists Afrikans interested in repatriation via https://www.repatriatetoghana.com and sees repatriation of Afrikans as a key competent for achieving the Pan-Afrikan vision.

Dr Ọbádélé Bakari Kambon, Ph.D. is an Afrikan anti-amerikkkan. In India, he has been known for advocating vociferously for the removal of the statue of Gandhi, from the University Campus in Ghana which was gifted by the government of India. He had famously advocated that ‘we need Ambedkar and not Gandhi’. It is refreshingly interesting to hear his views about Dr Ambedkar. He called Gandhi as racist and has his strong position which come after reading Gandhi’s world view on Africans. In our conversation, he copiously quotes Gandhi’s position on Africans when he lived there and calls them nothing less than racist. This conversation also give you a detailed history of how colonial powers destroyed Africa and Asia.
A highly acclaimed academic, linguist as well as dedicated person to African culture and literature, Dr Kambon faced racial discrimination in the United States from child hood and he could never ever consider him as an American even being a born citizen of that country. In the year 2007 he was arrested wrongfully and tried in Chicago. He was charged with having a loaded firearm under his car. Since 2009, he has been teaching at the Institute of African Studies in Accra.
Caste and Race issues are important for us to understand and equally important for all of us the dirty history of colonisation and building of narrative by the powerful elite emerging from these countries.
