Most African countries adopted a Eurocentric form of education at Independence. But there is a school in Kenya disrupting the colonial form of education. Children in Freedom School, the first of its kind, offers an Afrocentric system of learning. It focuses on incorporating African culture and teaching its students about their roots and history. It even teaches and examines students in their mother tongue, something that’s banned in some western-styled classrooms.

Indigenous knowledge and identity video is about my "local name" and how the foreigners considered my identity. This reflects to any "local name" one is given after birth since names were given either according to time of birth, season and many more.

This video explains the concept of family in the African culture with an example from my Kikuyu (a tribe in Kenya) extended family comparing it with Western nuclear family.

The video gives a brief description on the rites of passage in the olden days according to my culture. Through it, we learnt our responsibilities, rites and the consequences of non-compliance.

We were also taught how things were done and why we had or not do them. Respect was highly valued and we had to respect our elders so as to receive blessings from God.
