Picture this. It’s August 1905, and you’re standing near Mahenge in what was then German East Africa.

There’s fighting breaking out. Dust in the air. Gunfire in the distance. And then, out of the bush, you see something striking.

Large groups of African fighters moving toward a German position. Not scattered. Not hiding. Moving forward, directly into it.

Now here is the thing. This is a very uneven fight.

On the German side, you have colonial troops led by officers like Theodor von Hassel.

They’re dug in. They’re organised. And they have machine guns.

They’re also supported by askari, African soldiers trained under German command.

On the other side, most of the fighters are carrying spears and bows.
Some have firearms, but nothing close to what they’re up against.

And yet, they keep advancing.

Not because they don’t understand the danger. But because many of them believe they are protected.

Before the fighting, they had taken part in a ritual.

They were given what was known as maji, a kind of sacred water.
The belief was that this would protect them. That bullets would not harm them.

Now, from a distance, that might sound irrational.

But when you place it in context, it starts to make more sense.

Because this wasn’t just about belief. It was about pressure.

By 1905, German rule in the region had become extremely harsh.
Forced labour. Heavy taxation. And in particular, forced cotton farming.

Entire communities were being pushed to the limit. So what you’re seeing here is not just a battlefield moment.

It’s the point where that pressure finally breaks.

This is the Maji Maji Rebellion. One of the largest uprisings against colonial rule in African history……..

In this powerful episode of the *Raw Success Podcast*, we sit down with Afiya Mbilishaka, psychology expert and founder of PsychoHairapy, to explore the deep connection between mental health, culture, and identity.

Afiya breaks down how traditional psychology frameworks were not designed with the Black community in mind—and how that gap has impacted the way mental health is understood, treated, and even stigmatized. We dive into the origins of these systems, the cultural disconnect, and why representation and culturally relevant approaches are essential for real healing.

This conversation goes beyond theory. Afiya shares how PsychoHairapy is redefining therapy by creating safe, culturally affirming spaces—starting with something as personal and symbolic as hair. From generational trauma to self-expression, this episode challenges the status quo and opens the door for a new perspective on mental wellness.

@thereal_mickeyy explains why and how she learned Lang Ayisyen (e.k.a Haitian creole).

They just voted on slavery at the United Nations, and the results should change how every Black American thinks about moving abroad. In this video, we break down what that vote really signals, why “abstaining” is not neutral, and how we’re updating our travel and relocation recommendations for Black Americans based on the countries that stood up for our humanity and the countries that refused to.

We also highlight Ghana’s leadership on this historic resolution and share a practical framework you can use to research destinations through a deeper lens than cost of living and visa options.
