This video is about how does the massive traffic in Lagos Nigeria impact businesses. This is our transportation segment in Nigeria.

22 million people live in Lagos Nigeria. Lagos is Nigeria’s smallest state. Traffic costs the state of Lagos billions of naira. Welcome to Transportation, the segment where we break down everything in the Nigerian transportation sector.

Lagos is known for traffic. Go-slow is a way of life in Lagos.

But have you thought about the impacts of traffic on business in Lagos?

Forbes, Lagos is the 3rd worst city to drive in globally with about 60% congestion.

According to punch, Lagos residents spend 3 out of 10 years in traffic. Lagosians spend an average of seven hours 20 minutes in traffic every day.

Now what is the impact to businesses.

According to “The Socio-Economic costs of traffic congestion in Lagos” Lagosians collectively lose 3 billion hours to traffic congestions yearly, and that if that time were reduced by 20 per cent, it would save the state at least $1 billion dollars or (about N150 billion) yearly.

Traffic reduces productivity.

Think about it, Business lose because all their workers are spending time traveling to work rather than working; delaying (or missing) meetings; due to long travel time.

It is quite normal seeing road rage incidents on the road, because people are stressed. plus sitting in cars contributes negative to exposure to pollution.

There are also cases when goods get destroyed on transit due to lack of good road networks.
Security issues on the road because of traffic. Dispatcher riders (delivery men and women getting robbed).

The bad roads mess up cars. So if you are a business that errands an errand business, you are going to have an high car maintenance bill.

Why is the traffic so bad in Lagos?

There's so much potential with what we have all around us in Afrika. We also have the ability to help shape that potential and benefit from them.

Thursday, January 19th 1961.

Reuters Text from 1961:

Mrs Pauline Opanga Lumumba, wife of the deposed Congolese Premier Patrice Lumumba-was seen in a highly distressed condition January 19 (in front of a) hut in the native quarter of Leopoldville (later Kinshasa). She had just returned from her appeal to the United Nations for the return of her husband. Seated with her was her two-year-old son Roland Gilbert.

But she - and the wives of Lumumba's fellow prisoners Maurice Mpolo and Joseph Okito-were given no firm promise by UN authorities, and had to return home. Mrs Lumumba-who had also requested to visit her husband, said: "We spoke to a man and asked him to help get our husbands back because we have no money."

Mr Lumumba was transferred Jan 18 from imprisonment at Camp hardy at Thysville to a Katanga prison. In a statement Jan 19 mr Tshombe, self-styled President of Katanga Province, refused to indicate where Mr Lumumba was. He also denied he had been beaten by his soldiers.

Source: Reuters News Archive.

Note:

It was later established that Patrice Lumumba had been murdered by a Belgian commanded firing squad on January 17th 1961.

Afrika is home and I need to be there soon.

I will be joining the RTG global community as soon as I am able and I just want to start documenting my process of repatriation to Afrika.
For myself, for others who are hoping to achieve the similar things one day, or just for future generations to see.

I didn't go back to edit the video, so if some of my thoughts seem scattered and whatnot, I just want it to be known that I am humbled by the resources that have been created by my fellow Afrikans and look forwards to networking and getting to know more people soon.
