The religious beliefs of Israel were rooted in the shared culture of Canaan. Although it had unique attributes that differed from the Canaanites, it still found expression in shared practices and language. Some traditional practices couldn't be merged with Yahwism, but others like sacred poetry, music, and architecture were adopted and became integral to Israelite religion. The Old Testament's embrace or rejection of these elements means that Canaanite religious influences still affect us today through biblical narratives. Before the findings at Ugarit-Ras Shamra, our knowledge of Canaanite religion was minimal and largely from indirect sources. The Old Testament did mention Canaanite deities and rituals, but these were often in a negative light, making interpretations challenging. Mentions of Canaanite gods and rituals were also found in Egyptian, Mesopotamian, and Phoenician writings, including the Karatepe inscriptions from 1946. However, these weren't enough to form a complete understanding. Greek historians provided accounts of Canaanite beliefs, but it was hard to distinguish authentic traditions from later additions. Excavations at places like Byblos and Megiddo gave us glimpses, but only a fragmentary picture. Now, thanks to discoveries at Ras Shamra (ancient Ugarit) in North Syria, the Canaanites tell their own story. Hundreds of clay tablets found there, written in a dialect close to Biblical Hebrew, offer rich insights. These tablets feature extensive mythological poems, records related to temple services, lists of deities and sacrifices, and details about temple workers and rituals. Additionally, artifacts linked to gods like Baal and Dagon, including temple remains and stelae, have been uncovered. It's crucial to understand that while there was a core Canaanite religious belief, local variations existed. Not every Canaanite city would have worshiped all the gods we know from the texts. Canaanite religion was more of a public affair than a personal one. Its rituals, mostly centered on ensuring fertility, were community events. Though there were individual acts of devotion, as seen in Phoenician inscriptions, the religion was mainly a communal way to connect with nature's forces. This involved practices believed to ensure continued creation and rejuvenation. The prominence of some deities in mythological writings doesn't always reflect their actual popularity among Canaanite devotees. Conversely, some gods, like Dagon, had a minimal role in myths—merely acknowledged as Baal's father—but seemed quite revered, as evidenced by a dedicated temple and two stelae in Ugarit.EL, the hebrew word for GOD, is the Supreme God and creator, and shows up as ALLAH in arabic.YHWH’s revelation is always at a mountain, whether called Sinai or Horeb, pictures the event is a volcanic eruption. As these texts show, volcanism seems to be an essential attribute typically associated with YHWH, linking him to the Craftsman Metalurgy gods I mentioned before. The account of the Sinai revelation, with its volcanic imagery, is meant to show that YHWH himself, and not simply a divine emissary, but a Demiurgic Crafstman. Some believe Mount Sinai might be one of these Arabian volcanoes, which the Israelites approached after departing Egypt. The Kenites seem to have been skilled metalworkers. Genesis 4 discusses Cain's descendant, Tubal-Cain, as a craftsman skilled in molding copper and iron. Semitic cognates of Cain hint that metallurgical activities were integral to its meaning. Hence, Cain might originally have represented the pioneering figure in metallurgy, with the Kenites—both metalworkers and smelters—as his successors. Their association with a volcanic deity like YHWH becomes clearer in this context.00:00:00 - Intro00:02:21 - Chapter 1: Canaanite Religion00:05:33 - Chapter 2: the God EL00:07:14 - Chapter 3: Divine Craftsman00:10:38 - Chapter 4: PTAH, Demiruge00:12:48 - Chapter 5: Elephantine Jews00:17:27 - Chapter 6: Yahweh, Midianite Metallurgy God00:24:59 - Chapter 7: YHWH vs. Ba'al00:32:18 - Chapter 8: Dionysian IAO00:37:54 - Chapter 9: Dionysus of the Desert00:39:57 - Chapter 10: Yahweh Inscriptions00:42:50 - Chapter 11: EL, King of the North00:45:45 - Chapter 12: Saturn, King of ELOHIM00:53:57 - Chapter 13: Old Gods - BAD00:58:00 - Chapter 14: Breasts of Gaia (2 Mountains)01:01:27 - Chapter 15: Jewish Polythesim01:03:22 - Chapter 16: Rise of Monotheism01:19:25 - Chapter 17: Demetrius Phalerius01:26:16 - OUTRO: Plutarch on 'AMEN'#gnosticinformant #judaism #documentary

⁣Djehuti-Thoth is among the oldest and most complex and mysterious Ntryw of the ancient Egyptian world. His origins lost to time, he would become the Ntr of writing, heka (magic), fate and the moon. He would aid in the resurrection of Osiris, intercede on the part of justice (Ma'at) in the dispute between Horus and Set and go on to become worshiped at Hermopolis as Lord of the Ogdoad. In the Greco-Roman period he would be fused with Hermes becoming Hermes Trismegistus, legendary founder of hermetic philosophy and the occult sciences of alchemy, magic and astrology.

📜 The Haitian Revolution
-Haiti: A Slave Society - The Haitian Revolution is a unique historical event in many ways. It was both an offshoot of the French Revolution, but also an anti-colonialist revolution. It was also the second American nation to successfully win its independence. But before we can talk about the Revolution itself, we have to talk about how influential Haiti was to France's economy and how it's complicated social structure primed it for revolt and revolution. Because here, in the colony built upon the countless bodies of the enslaved, sugar is king. But not for long.

Your explanation for each and every contradiction here must have better explanatory power than "Well, maybe it just got written down wrong or something." (Read on...)

————

Yes. Maybe it got written down wrong. Or copied wrong by some anonymous copyist along the way. Or mistranslated from the original language (Jesus and his followers spoke Aramaic, the New Testament was written in Greek). MAYBE SOMEONE GOT IT WRONG.

What is wrong with any of those as explanations for the bible texts being in the shape they're in? Maybe it got written down wrong or something. That explains... ummm let me see,.... EVERYTHING, and requires no leaps of logic, no invented narrative glue, no convoluted excuses, no reliance on mysterious inconceivable underhand moves by an invisible deity who deemed it better to have his central, most important message to his favored species become filled with EVEN apparent errors, conflicts, and contradictions.

How NOT to respond to this movie:
a) By assuming that I have not looked into these contradictions with any level of depth and accusing me of not having tried to understand any kind of "deeper meaning". Wherever possible, I consulted christians' explanations. I've given them a good go. They're just shit.

b) By saying that these aren't errors at all, rather, that they are simply copyist's errors. Uh- derr. A copyist's error is an error. I don't care what kind of error it is, just don't make the claim that the bible is completely free of errors, except for the cases in which there are errors, which are only copyist's errors only, which aren't really errors.

c) If you agree with me that English translations of the bible contain errors, but you think that the original Hebrew and Greek manuscripts are pure and therefore true - DON'T tell me this and then go on to criticise me and other skeptics for pointing out that the English translations contain errors!

Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence. That which can be asserted without evidence can be discarded without evidence.

I know, and actually find to have some weight, the New Testament apologists' conundrum - namely that if all of the gospel accounts really did match exactly, then critics of the bible would instantly accuse the authors of having conspired together. So, if there are inconsistencies it counts against the bible, and if there were no inconsistencies, it would still count against the bible.
Well - tough. The creator of the universe could have done a lot better. The only reasonable conclusion to come to is that the creative force that arranged the constants of the universe, gave birth to galaxy clusters, quantum physics and DNA, invented love, knowledge and truth, and is capable of any miracle he could ever come up with- had fuck all to do with this raggedy old contradictory book of bullshit.

Whenever I make a movie about what the bible says, I'm talking about the actual words that are printed on the pages of the bible. Funny how I always get criticised for doing so, by people who agree that modern translations or English translations are inadequate and erroneous.
_______

I was very selective when deciding whether to include each contradiction in the script. Many that were listed on the lists and websites appeared to me to be either non-contradictory, easily explained, or simply too petty to really count significantly against the claim of biblical inerrancy. I drew heavily on skepticsannotatedbible.com , which actually has links to christian responses to each of the contradictions it lists, where one has been put forward. I read almost all of them and if the explanation sounded like a bunch of bollocks to me, then I dismissed the explanation and included the contradiction in the script. One of the criteria I used to ascertain whether I thought the explanation was good enough, was whether I thought a christian would accept a similar explanation for a contradiction in any other religions holy book, such as the Qaran or Book of Mormon.

For example:
LookingUntoJesus.net has this pathetic explanation for one of the contradictions:

"The text which is called into question is Luke 2:2. If Jesus was born in the days of Herod (who presumably died in 4 BC), then how could Quirinius be governing Syria (who presumably began his reign in 6 AD)?
The trouble is in the English translation of the text, not in the text itself. Keep in mind that the New Testament was written in Greek, not English. Since the translators were not inspired, there is the potential for erroneous translations".

US Eyes Ivory Coast for Drone Base to Solidify Ties With West Africa | Firstpost Africa | N18G

Amid growing instability in the Sahel region and shifting geopolitical dynamics, the United States is actively pursuing closer security ties with the Ivory Coast, including discussions about establishing a drone base in the West African nation. This development comes as the US seeks to reposition its military presence in the region following its withdrawal from Niger. The strengthening partnership was highlighted during a recent visit by US Marine Corps General Michael Langley, Commander of US Africa Command (AFRICOM), who attended the opening ceremony of Flintlock 2025 in Jacqueville on April 24. During his visit, a key topic of discussion was the potential establishment of a drone base in Ivory Coast. While no final decision has been made regarding constructing a permanent facility, advanced talks are reportedly underway between the US and Ivorian authorities. Watch this video to know more.

Whenever the West says some old scheme is a thing of the past, you know they've just moved on to a more PR friendly version of the same. Colonialism is probably the prime example. Instead of exploiting people at the barrel of a gun, they now do it at the barrel of US Dollar denominated debt. Even resource rich and prosperous countries like Sri Lanka can't escape the terrible logic, once corrupt elites sign the contracts that kick-off debt-trap spirals of doom.

Today I’m talking to Dr. Darini Rajasingham-Senanayake. Darini earner her PhD from Princeton University and Is now a social and medical anthropologist with research focus on international development and political economy. She is also a prolific writer in several online outlets on the politics of South Asia and especially her native Sri Lanka. She often points out the neo-colonial structures and the many regime change operations that have been economically and politically devastating her part of the Eurasian continent.

The theme for the forum is “Leveraging Technology to Prevent Post Harvest Loss”.

Sufficient Food Supply is imperative for an economy to thrive especially in these times of uncertainty. Research has shown that global food production has reached a record high in recent years; however, one third of all food produced for human consumption is lost or wasted, this is equivalent to 1.3 billion tons.

Some of these losses occur on the farm, during harvest, gathering, and others occur while commodities are in transit, during offloading (due to poor handling), and in varying degrees in the entire value chain and this has led to food insecurity for millions of families in Nigeria and across the World.

In some developing countries, small holder farmers regularly lose 40 percent of their harvest due to inadequate storage facilities or equipment.

Achieving zero loss in Agriculture is unfeasible; however, we can reduce this loss to a large extent by continually creating awareness and building waste management capacities.
