Abibiman could soon have its own numeral system taught in schools. A pilot programme in Ghana is introducing Obibini Numerals, an innovation designed to make mathematics and STEM learning easier and more intuitive for students. #dwafrica #dwafricasocialmedia

This video really brought back memories. When I was in elementary school Mathematics was usually a problem for me and so many pupils. Teachers never really helped but instead created a segregated classroom where smart students were favoured and received more attention while the struggling students were often overlooked, humiliated and ignored. We used counting sticks but couldn't really identify them with the conventional numbers. As the lady rightly said in the video, no one (not even the teacher) could explain why the conventional numbers looked the way they are. The number 7 (sometimes with a stroke across) can be read as 2 or 3 strokes but it was difficult to associate it with seven counting sticks. Very proud of Ghana for taking active measures to embrace and incorporate indigenous knowledge in their educational curricula. 🇬🇭✊🏾✊🏾🟥⬛🟩
