Namibia's Founding President Sam Nujoma died on February 8 at 23:45 in Windhoek, Namibia, at the age of 95.
Nujoma, a politician and anti-apartheid activist, served as the first President of Namibia from 1990 to 2005.
Nujoma has played an integral part in Namibia's history since the 1950s when he co-founded the Ovamboland People's Organisation, which became SWAPO in 1960. He advocated for an independent Namibia at international bodies such as the UN and the OAU and was at the forefront of the guerrilla war against South Africa's apartheid government that started in 1966.
