Most people assume that African migrants are poor, broke, desperate Africans. On the contrary, many African migrants are well-to-do, middle-class Africans who live a good live in their countries. So, why are they leaving their good life behind to (oftentimes) suffer in the US and Europe?

What makes it worse is that most cannot return home. I am speaking from an asylum seeker's perspective and it is thought to come back home because of the emotional weight or financial costs. It is a TRAP. Enslavement if we want to be frank. They are arresting immigrants and putting them in detention centers where they are mistreated and abused without the possibility of getting adequate representation. In addition, the ones that are scheduled for deportation are kept for years on end without reason except that the detention centers receive money for each occupied bed. If that is not enslavement and exploitation...I don't know what it is.

America and Europe has done excellent job on their Public Relations propaganda campaign to Afrika and Afrikans that “America and Europe, and the West in general, is heaven on earth. And Afrika is hell on earth. You even had the president of the United States proclaimed to the world that “Africa is a shithole.” President Donald Trump referred to African countries, as "shithole" nations during a White House meeting. If that is not a great propaganda from the most powerful man in the world and the most powerful nation in the world to say about Africa, then I don’t know what is. And us Africans we believe it. We have taken it to heart that Africa is a “shithole” place to live. We would rather die in the desert, and would rather die in the ocean than to make something of ourselves in a “shithole” country in Africa. Like I said, America and the west has done an excellent PR job on making America and the west “heaven on earth” and Africa a “shithole on earth.” So now what are we Afrikans going to do to change that negative propaganda narrative of Afrika that we have been indoctrinated with since we were children.

@KwabenaOforiOsei: Very true. But, that illusion is quickly falling. However, what I have noticed is that many of our people are so deeply brainwashed that they do not see the degradation around them they simply refuse to shine their eyes. I am not exempt from it but I am at least aware enough to be seeking knowledge and how to get back to my roots.

@Latio Cosmos: Same here. I have not been exempt from the negative propaganda of Afrika since I was a child. And every day I try to focus on the beauty of Afrika and get more deep into Afrikan ancestral culture, traditions and knowledge.
