What does Bazoum's ethnicity got to do with anything? I thought the people's frustration were around France's long standing strangle hold on the economy through the CF Franc, military presences on the ground and in neighboring Mali, and the French sticking their noses in Niger's business like they do with the other neighboring countries in the name of fighting terrorism.

@Babasola Adejola: Babasola Adejola: No need to be insulting. I was asking an innocent question. I didn't know the Nigerien president was Arab or that it's a huge issue for the Nigerien people as they elected him and just barely escaped a previous coup in 2021. Also, many Africans don't identity themselves by color but by their ethnicity and nationality. Might I add, even though its a completely different country, I'm sure the current situation in Sudan has you are equally livid with the situation in Sudan. Given what the Rapid Support Force militia there is doing to the people in Darfur especially.

@IGcreativo: You have a very White/Biracial condescending tone to your respond which means you were trying to be insulting. And you are claiming "Many" Africans don't identity themsleves with a color...You know very damn well that African and Black are synomous. And the first comment I said how does an Arab gain power in Black Africa. And if you think Africans elected that Arab you are disrespectful and disengenious

@Babasola Adejola: To answer your question on Arabs gaining power in Niger or Africa, they migrated there, was born there, installed or elected if you ignore the outside interference. Bazoum was born in Niger but his parents or grandparents were from Libya. I am not being condescending or being disrespectful. I was pointing out that identity is way more complex than just color. I have met people who insists that African=black and they use it as their sole identity. I am saying that there are Africans such as Sudanese (Northerners), Ethiopians, Malians and Moroccans (I know I opened a can of worms with the last addition. Moroccan Amazighs or Berbers are their own ethnic group and had to fight to not be a identified with Arabs) who have complex identities that go beyond color. Sorry if some Africans don't want to be lumped into just being black. They feel it ignores their unique identities and that the West just sees Africans as all the same while ignoring real ethnic and culture diversities across Africa. I am aware Pan Africanism and black consciousness have been rising with the younger generation across Africa. Consciousness and Pan Africanism never went away. Niger among other countries are finally putting their foot down to Western countries. I wish it had happened years ago. I'm African btw.
