Take a look with us how permaculture farming is growing rapidly in India. Manisha Lath Gupta, who was an executive vice president in a private bank, decided to grow a healthy food for herself and her family in 2011. The bought a barren piece of land, devoid of any vegetation and without top soil. It took the couple 7 years, but at the end she and her husband created a food forest called Aanandaa or tranquility, using principles of permaculture. Aanandaa farm is located on the base of Morni hills, about an hour's drive from Chandigarh. What was a barren piece of land seven years ago is now a food forest with more than 4,500 trees.

Syntropic farming is a new and ancient permaculture practice that can be implemented in any region, in any climate, in limitless ways – even in your own back yard. For over a decade the Lotz-Keegan family have been implementing permaculture practices to regenerate a degraded hillside into an abundant food forest of native and exotic trees that feed their family, their community, the wildlife, the soil, and their souls.

Combining the practices of syntropic agroforestry with the principles of permaculture and their own deeply thoughtful approach to land regeneration, food growing, and lifestyle, this family is partnering with nature to create a humming diversity on the land and a positive story about the role of humans in an eco-system.

We came away from our shoot with so much invaluable information about the why and how of syntropic farming as it’s practised at PermaDynamics. For this reason we’ve made the full interview with Klaus Lotz available on our website, and all 10 full-length interviews, some of which we couldn’t include in the film, available on our Patreon page. Also if you’re keen to dig deeper into this style of growing food and regenerating soil, check out PermaDynamics' own videos available on their Patreon page.

Syntropic agroforestry is a regenerative form of agriculture that has been notably implemented in Brazil. I recently traveled to Haiti (May 2021), to participate in a Syntropic Agriculture workshop. This method of agriculture is very promising in the area of reforestation. This video captures a fraction of the excitement and optimism concerning the potential on this form of regenerative agriculture. Thank you for your time.

Imagine transforming barren and empty landscapes into abundant food forests, layered with mangoes, legumes, garlic, herbs and corn.

SwaYYam in South India is doing just this by using agroforestry and alley cropping to revitalise soils, produce an abundance of crops and educate local farmers.

Agroforestry and alley cropping allow multiple crops to be stacked in one space, with tree crops providing shelter for low-lying plants and holding water in the soil with their roots. Fast growing biomass plants are used as groundcover and then as a mulch to feed the soil. Nitrogen-fixers make nitrogen available in the soil for other plants and a range of crops are grown for year-round food.

Swales and ploughing on the contour work with the land's orientation to maximise water capture. Deep irrigation and pitcher irrigation take water deep to the roots of trees, especially young sapling plantings.

SwaYYAm and their educational centre, Open Shell Farm, enables local farmers to learn regenerative farming methods, helping them create their own sustainable incomes through healthy soils and bountiful harvests.

SwaYYAm is a recipient of the 2020 Permaculture Magazine Prize: https://www.permaculture.co.uk..../articles/2020-perma

Agroforestry is a system of land management that involves the simultaneous cultivation of farm crops and trees. This video is one of a set of six, which focuses on a farm in Viola Wisconsin. The videos demonstrate practices and innovative techniques to help you understand how to incorporate agroforestry on your land. On-site interviews are combined with instructional video and narrated slides. Content specialists include scientists and outreach professionals.

In the third video, "Alley Cropping", we discover what alley cropping is and how it can help maximize your agroforestry profit while you wait for your trees to grow.

Fine hardwoods like walnut, oak, ash and pecan are favored species in alley cropping systems and can potentially provide high value lumber or veneer logs. Learn how nut crops can be another intermediate product and see examples of successful alley cropping practices.

Have you ever thought of farming, did you succeed or are you currently into farming. What are the pros and cons of farming. Farming is a very noble job that can be satisfying but only if you approach it the right way. Whether dairy , crop or mixed farming. Watch, learn and leave a comment, let me know what different thing you would do had this been your farm or in your own farm.

This video is an update to an old video we did 3 years ago. We keep learning and we have now seen that using manure gives us a much better result when raising our seedlings.

Enjoy your watch!!!

Thanks

In this video, Robert explains his process for creating a PVC drip irrigation system for his raised square foot garden.

Robert also shows how he is using his rain barrel water system that can be controlled by his smart phone to turn the drip irrigation system on and off.

A comparison between class 200 and schedule 40 PVC is also performed, and Robert explains his thoughts between the two types.

Overall, Robert’s goal was to keep the overall cost low for creating a DIY PVC drip irrigation system but also making the system easy to disassemble, reassemble and flexible for different types of gardens.
