For the past 30 years Paula Petinaud (Sista P) as she is affectionately called has been living in Portland where she has dedicated her time to preserving Jamaica’s traditional culture and heritage, improving literacy, exposing Jamaicans to life on the continent and has attained the status of Cultural Ambassador among her peers.

Celebrating 6259 NEW YEAR Celebrations in Africa, Zimbabwe Nyaje Gokwe! Since earliest times, melanin dominant people (MDH) have sought to fulfil inherent deeply-rooted spiritual urge that links the to natural time cycles. They achieved this by engaging in electric and spirit filled New Year festivals. Everything was considered to start anew, untainted and original, as long as certain rituals were performed individually, as families, tribes, or in their specific kingdom. First, the celebrants would banish malicious spirits, any evils or sins of the past year or years, through specific cleansing processes. This would be followed by positive acts that would guarantee a propitious future. It was rare for mature adult participants to be unaware of the value of adhering seriously to these ancient mystical practices. However today billions of MDH toot their car horns and stay awake on December 31 ignorant of the certainty that this type of New Year even with decent horns blaring and awesome fireworks is being used as s tool to arouse evil spirits. They are ushering in a New Year that is not theirs but the roman deity Janus. Why Should we consciously celebrate New year in September? Because its our NEW YEAR, the beginning of a new life when leaves begin to change and Summer is upon us. Time to plant. Time to review what has happened in the last years and make necessary adjustments.
