Black Hair-itage, History, and Healing with Dr. Afiya Mangum-Mbilishaka
Black Culture Matters is a series hosted by the African American Studies Institute (AASI) at Prince George's Community College, revolving around this year’s theme: Resisting De-humanization through the Humanities.
The goal of this series is not to declare the value of Black lives to those who do not wish to acknowledge it. The goal is, instead, to examine the ways in which people of African descent have expressed their own humanity, to affirm the meaning-making with which they have resisted being "thingified."
These four (4) lecture-discussions will not only offer historical and cultural context for the given topics; they will also challenge the community to think about how expanded knowledge might inform the racially charged present moment.

Great Discussion.
In Ghana today, when a black woman gets married all you see is black women wearing European weaves and wigs on there on their wedding day. It has gotten so bad that even in traditional African=Ghanaian wedding all you see is black women wearing weaves and wigs.
It will be great to see more African communities incorporating African style hair in their wedding ceremonies.
