Professor of African Studies at University of Washington, discusses how
identity and religion in particular Christianity and liberation theology have
been used by South Sudanese society as a form of resistance and expression of
agency against the state policy of Arabization and Islamization by successive
Khartoum governments against the fight for human and citizen rights in South
Sudan prior to the region's independence from Sudan in 2011.
