“Any attack on any African individual has to be understood within the context as an attack on the global structure of African people.
In western societies, Africans are regarded as a social malignancy.
Jason Arday became a signifier, the symbol of the malignant nature of Black people. And in more specifically, he became the signifier of malignant nature of the Black intellectual, the Black academic.
In as much it was about Jason Arday, it was also about the problematizing the presence of Black people in academia, particularly Black men in academia.
The idea was to signify his presence, those he signify as, and those he signify for as totally illegitimate.
The constant media coverage was to proliferate the broader message of illegitimacy of Black people, particularly Black men, within these elite western institutions.”

Nathan Cofnas is an American postdoctoral researcher at Ghent University in Belgium. He is known for controversies surrounding his advocacy and support of scientific racism and eugenics.
