Dr. Kamau Rashid & Dr. Miron Clay-Gilmore: The Attack On Black Academia
In this interview, we speak with Dr. Kamau Rashid and Dr. Miron Clay-Gilmore about the ongoing challenges facing Black academics and the broader attack on Black intellectual life.
We take a deep look at the controversy surrounding Jason Arday and what his case reveals about the treatment of Black scholars within academia. The conversation also explores philosophy as a discipline, the role of sociology, and how Black intellectual traditions have challenged dominant academic frameworks.
Drawing on the work and ideas of W.E.B. Du Bois and Huey P. Newton, we discuss Black scholarship, power, knowledge, institutional racism, and the importance of developing intellectual traditions rooted in the experiences and struggles of Black people.
This is a wide-ranging conversation about academia, philosophy, sociology, Black intellectual history, and the future of Black scholarship.
