Foreign NGO Interference: Western NGO Slanders Zambian Government Weeks Before Elections
Zambia is set to hold its general elections on August 13 this year. The landlocked, mineral-rich Southern African country has been recently moving to boost its copper production, as well as strengthen economic relations with its East African neighbor Tanzania, through the China-backed upgrading of a 51-year-old railway corridor linking both countries.
On July 21, barely a month before Zambia’s upcoming elections, US, UK and Belgium-based NGO, Global Witness released a scathing report, in which it accused the Zambian government of impoverishing its people and trampling on their human rights to serve foreign corporate interests.
In this report, The Spearhead sheds light on the reality behind this hypocritical and hilariously uncreative smear campaign.
