In December 2013, The Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) found Dr. Wouter Basson, guilty of unprofessional conduct and breaching medical ethics. This was for his role in heading the Apartheid Government's Chemical and Biological Warfare programme, called "Project Coast", which earned him the nickname, Dr. Death.
The HPCSA judgement has been seen as a victory by many, who felt that Basson had literally gotten away with murder for more than two decades. One such person is Yasmin Sooka, who was a commissioner during the Truth and Reconciliation Commission.
