Interracial relations between white and Black in the United States has played a central role in the treatment of Blacks in society, to the extent that there is a painful and complicated history attached to Black-white unions in Black communities in the U.S.
For example, at the same time slavery was a legal institution in the Slave States, the American South, interracial unions were prohibited by law.
While white women and Black men were severely punished (sometimes by death-lynching of Black men) for engaging in sexual relations, the much more common interracial sexual unions of white men and Black women were much more welcoming and acceptable in society —white men were not lynched or punished for being with a Black women. And sometimes white men were rewarded as ritual rites of becoming a man if he has been with a Black woman sexually.
