White People still Police Black Speech Till This Day.

Deference is the condition of submitting to the judgment and authority of a superior.
Deference (also called submission or passivity) is the condition of submitting to the legitimate influence of one's superior or superiors. Deference implies a yielding or submitting to the judgment of a recognized and legitimate influence of a superior, out of reverence.
In other words,
Black people were legally required to worship white people. Which still goes on today.
