FROM REMEMBRANCE TO REBUILDING: D.O.O.R. OPENS A DECADE OF ACTION

At the official launch of the Decade of Our Repatriation (D.O.O.R.) at the Great Hall of the University of Ghana on 16 July 2026, Africans everywhere were called to transform repatriation from a long-held aspiration into a practical programme of reconnection, investment and nation-building.

The gathering brought together government, academia, traditional leadership, business and diaspora communities around a shared purpose: replacing symbolic homecoming with durable pathways for return and settlement. Speakers emphasized that repatriation must create measurable opportunities through employment, entrepreneurship, investment, skills transfer and policy reform—strengthening Ghana while reconnecting the global African family.

D.O.O.R. founder and convener Ɔbenfo Professor Ọbádélé Kambon presented an action-focused vision in which dialogue produces evidence, evidence produces partnerships, and partnerships open opportunities. The initiative has already drawn strong interest from University of Ghana students, particularly around jobs and internships, demonstrating how repatriation can connect knowledge, enterprise and economic opportunity.

The central message is clear: a homecoming may be a moment, but a decade must become a structure. The Atlantic, once used to separate African people, can now become a bridge of reunion, development and collective power.
