Can Corrupt Leaders Defeat Banditry? The Hard Truth
Terrorist movements often fight with extraordinary determination, sustained by a deep harmony of ideology, purpose, and shared belief. Their members are frequently willing to sacrifice everything, including their lives, for causes they perceive as just and meaningful. At the heart of such movements are leaders who instill conviction, discipline, and a sense of mission in their followers.
Ironically, these same qualities - shared purpose, belief in justice, and inspirational leadership, are also essential for building great and enduring states. No nation can be made great through tribalism, corruption, nepotism, or misguided leadership. Such forces hollow out institutions, weaken social cohesion and erode the legitimacy of the state.
