In Burkina Faso, water is as valuable as gold, and finding it has been one of the country’s biggest struggles for decades. But now, President Ibrahim Traoré has launched an ambitious water project that no one before him—not the Belgians, not Médecins Sans Frontières, not the UN, not the numerous NGOs—was able to fully solve.
For years, experts from all over the world tried and failed to crack Burkina Faso’s water crisis. Drilling boreholes, digging wells, and diverting water sources—none of these efforts provided a long-term solution. But now, Ibrahim Traoré has a masterplan that could change everything.
