We look at how the death of Queen Elizabeth II is prompting former British colonies in the Caribbean to replace the British monarch as their head of state. Antigua and Barbuda's prime minister has vowed to hold a referendum soon on whether to become a republic, and Jamaica's ruling Labour Party also plans a vote. The Caribbean at one point formed the heart of England's first colonial empire in North America, with millions of enslaved Africans taken to the islands, where many were worked to death. Dorbrene O'Marde, chair of the Antigua and Barbuda Reparations Commission, says he is not personally mourning Queen Elizabeth's death because her reign helped to "cloak the historical brutality of empire in this veneer of grandeur and pomp and pageantry." We also speak with renowned Jamaican poet and musician Mutabaruka, who says the British monarchy "represents criminal activity" and that the British state needs to make reparations to former colonies like Jamaica to redress the history of abuses. "Actions speak louder than words," he says.

Team Bla Xit and a panel of Diaporans including Danny King, Matthew Hypolite, Shanice Lindsay & Tony.... engaged in a press conference with 10 members of the Gambian Media organised by Kiffa introduced by Melo our camera man and editor. To share our thoughts and feelings about the Draft Constitution. We are also planning to request an audience with The President and the National Assembly regarding Automatic Citizenship sections 16, 20,247,248. .
We ask for an adaptation to section 16, we ask for it to include Disaporans, Africans Descendants of the Enslaved within the definition of a Gambian Citizen, so that we may be considered as the exceptions to and excluded and shielded from far reaching implications section of 248. Not withstanding section 20. We are black Africans descendents of the Gambia via Chattel Slavery, our ancestors were kidnapped from Gambia and we ended up being scattered around the world creating the world wide African family of the Diaspora. We require acknowledgement and automatic citizenship to all residents and land owners and homeowners/investors already living in the Gambia. We call for the Gambian Government to include us and not to leave us behind. The insecurity created within Diasporan communities have affected inward investment and will continue to as long it remains detrimental to Diasporans.

PLEASE. THANK YOU
YOUR SKELETON LETTER TO ASK THE CRC TO REVIEW AND RECONSIDER AND AMEND THE DRAFT CONSTITUTION, SECTION 16 TO INCLUDE AUTOMATIC CITIZENSHIP TO ADOS LAND OWNERS AND PROPERTY OWNERS AND INVESTORS. PLEASE SEE THE LETTER BELOW
Your letter can state the following:
Dear Secretariat, Re CRC Commission Submission I have been made aware of section's 257 and 258 of the Draft Constitution. I have some recommendation with regard to section 16 with regards to Citizenship also. 1. Diasporans that live own land and property in the Gambia are investors in the Gambia and are of African Descent and we would Gambia to follow in the footsteps of Ghana and Sierra Leone in uniting with the Disapora in offering automatic citizenship to African Gambian Descendants of the enslaved Africans in the Diaspora. This amendment to section 16 would demonstrate Gambia's commitment to unify and to invite inward investment to Diasporas and prevent them from the effects of the unfavorable land rights in section 257 and 258. We are asking for an exemption and exception to be made in our regards as this would be very damaging to both the relationships with the Diasporans, ADOS- African Descendant of Enslaved Africans world wide who may no longer wish to consider heritage tourism and property ownership and inward invest or aid to The Gambia and this would indicate that we are not welcome in The Gambia. We should not be lumped in the same category as others as we are actually coming home to build and develop and to create job opportunities and develop the infrastructure of the Gambia. There has been a long history of returnee's including Alex Haley, Automatic citizenship was offered previously at the Roots Festival and this was an excellent vehicle for us to be invited into the Gambian society to be welcomed back. We hope the Gambian society see our long term benefits to the country and engage in change the demonstrates to us that they value our contributions and offer us Automatic Citizenship so we will not be impacted by section 257 and 258 as this must be done before the sections 257 and 258 negatively impact upon Diasporan ADOS investors, land owners and home owners.
