To get fire, which exists only on Earth, it took billions of years of photosynthesis – which means fire can’t exist without life. And fire and life have been shaping each other ever since.

The FBI is investigating a spate of racist text messages targeting Black Americans in the wake of Donald Trump's election victory last week. The texts were reported in states including Alabama, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Virginia, addressing recipients as young as 13 by name and telling them they were "selected to pick cotton at the nearest plantation" and other messages referencing slavery. For more, we speak with Robert Greene II, a history professor at Claflin University, South Carolina's first and oldest historically Black university in Orangeburg, where many students were targeted. "Initially when I heard about the texts, I thought it was a bit of a hoax, but … it quickly became clear that this wasn't just a Claflin problem, it was a national issue, as well," says Greene. We also speak with Wisdom Cole, senior national director of advocacy for the NAACP, who says "this is only the beginning," with a second Trump administration expected to attack civil rights and embolden hate groups.Democracy Now! is an independent global news hour that airs on over 1,500 TV and radio stations Monday through Friday. This video explores the concept of the "Imaginary White Man"—a metaphor for internalized colonial mindsets that continue to oppress African people. We discuss how this mindset divides communities, fosters distrust, and perpetuates systemic inequalities. It’s time to reject this internalized oppression, recognize the real issues, and come together for unity and progress. Let’s stop seeing each other as the problem and embrace collective empowerment.

South Africa is often celebrated as the 'Rainbow Nation,' but beneath the surface lies a stark reality of racial inequality that persists decades after apartheid. In this video, we explore the deep economic, social, and political disparities that continue to divide the country. From land ownership and wealth distribution to education and job opportunities, we uncover how systemic racism has shaped modern South Africa. Additionally, we delve into the troubling issue of xenophobia against other Africans.
