OUR SUDAN is a short film to inspire a new generation. Based on a TEDxKhartoum talk by the same name it has been made to inspire young Sudanese to think differently about themselves and their future - to inspire them to believe that, "the future is not a matter of what will be, but what could be. That it is a choice and it is theirs to make."The film OUR SUDAN tells the story of a generation of young men and women raised in a world of great tumult and change in which the dream of an older generation seems to have been lost. The film presents a new perspective, offering a celebration of Sudan's promise and calling upon young people to, "dream a new dream, the dream of their generation."An Arabic version of the same is under the following link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-28EsAZ_dVo

Kwame Nkrumah was the leader of Ghana from independence until his deposition by a CIA-back coup d'etat in 1966, as well as one of the principal political and philosophical leaders of the Pan-African movement. While friendly with countries such as the Soviet Union, Nkrumah's Ghana was part of the non-aligned movement, and Nkrumah's political philosophy is typically described as a syncretic mixture of Marxism and traditional African cultural ideas.
While the defeats of socialist experiments in West African countries like Ghana and Guinea-Conakry urge reflection on the successes and failures of these ideologies and movements, Nkrumah remains a key figure in the history and competing ideologies of African liberation movements, and thus he, and Neo-Colonialism: The Last Stage of Imperialism, his most famous work, merit study in order to enrich our understanding of African history.

From Democracy Now: We get an update from Morocco, the North African country has declared three days of mourning after the strongest earthquake to hit the region in at least a century. About 2,500 people died in the 6.8-magnitude earthquake that struck the country on Friday, with another 2,500 injured and the death toll expected to rise. The epicenter was in the High Atlas Mountains located about 44 miles South of Marrakech, where many villages remain largely inaccessible and lack both electricity and running water. The earthquake also damaged parts of Marrakech, including its old city, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We speak with Moroccan scholars Abdellah El Haloui, in Marrakech, where he is head of the English Department at Cadi Ayyad University, and Brahim El Guabli, associate professor of Arabic studies at Williams College, originally from Ouarzazate, Morocco, which was hit by the earthquake.
