African Cosmology of the Bantu-Kongo (Fu-Kiau) Chp 3 #wearereading African Philosophy.

Bunseki Fu-Kiau, Ph.D. is one of the great scholars of the African religion, and the leading authority on the Bantu-Kongo civilization. He is also a genuine practitioner of the Kongo spiritual tradition. He is initiated into the three "secret societies" Lemba, Khimba and Kimpasi. Lemba is the foundation for several African based religious practices including Palo Mayombe (Cuba), Vodou Petro (Haiti) and Candomble Angola (Brasil). African cosmology of the Bantu-Kongo explores the Bantu-Kongo religious and philosophical teachings, as well as concepts of law and crime. It connects the reader with one of the most ancient and powerful spiritual traditions-explore "seven-direction walk" of our origin and links to society, nature and the universe.

Don't be wise in your own eyes
Never be wisest in your own eyes, or look down on people.

More from this storyteller: Interview with Lawrence Kwaku Boateng (b)

Don't be wise in your own eyes (Twi)
One morning as God was relaxing in his bed he heard a knock on the door. When he opened the door he saw Anansi. 'God I have realised I 'm the wisest person in the world', Anansi said to God. God told him that he would give him a cow and that he should take it around the world. If you find somebody that is wiser than you, bring him back to me and I will crown him the wisest person. If you don't find anybody, you will bring back the cow to me and I will crown you the wisest person. Kwaku Anansi took the cow and set off. On his journey Anansi met a young orphan on the outskirts of a village. The boy proves to Anansi that he is wiser, and Anansi sends him to God to be crowned wisest man on earth. Never be wisest in your own eyes and never look down on other people.

Malcolm X interview with Barry Gray; March 10, 1960

Malcolm X was born Malcolm Little on May 19, 1925 in Omaha, Nebraska. His mother, Louise Norton Little, was a homemaker occupied with the family’s eight children. His father, Earl Little, was an outspoken Baptist minister and avid supporter of Black Nationalist leader Marcus Garvey. Earl’s civil rights activism prompted death threats from the white supremacist organization Black Legion, forcing the family to relocate twice before Malcolm’s fourth birthday.

Melaneyes Media is an independent film company based in San Antonio, TX. We are committed to providing knowledge-based Black cultural films, projects and products relevant to the African Diaspora.

Melaneyes ( mĕl′ə-nīz )

Is a play on the term “melanize” which means to blacken, or to infuse with melanin. Melanin is the chemical substance that gives dark people our skin pigmentation.

We altered the spelling to include “eyes” because we are a film company and ultimately what we create is of a visual nature. As human beings, 70% of our sensory receptors are in our eyes so visual content affects us in a way that shapes our world view and touches our emotions.

We want to infuse your eyes with melanin (metaphorically) meaning, to blacken your vision so that you look at the world from a Black perspective as opposed to a Eurocentric view of the the world; especially as it relates to history.
