Everyone enjoy things made in the community and for the community, not less, a good beer.

Burkina Faso’s government just made a series of bold, coordinated decisions that could redefine its future. In a single council meeting, the country addressed education, security, justice, and economic reform, without foreign aid. What happened wasn’t routine policy. It was the quiet launch of a national transformation with continental implications. The council didn’t emerge with fanfare. But what it left behind was a series of decisions that read less like routine governance and more like a strategic reset. Not reactionary, not symbolic — these were operational shifts, the kind that tell you a country is not only paying attention to its problems but is finally choosing to solve them. African architecture should stop copying the West, engage the real needs of the people and regard the environment, says Diébédo Francis Kéré.

Looking at the housing situation in West Africa, architect Diébédo Francis Kéré (Kéré Architecture) says that Africans should stop imitating the Western way of building and rather adapt it to their own needs – and the needs of the community – in order to cope better with the weather patterns in the region.

Due to the lack of a secure income, people build their houses themselves... and as models, they just copy the neighbouring house. In this part of the world, we only have one school for architecture, says Kéré.

Kéré believes the built environment in Africa should adapt to nature, while maintaining the cultural richness of the people.

He talks about his dream to make things better in his home country of Burkina Faso and tells how he has been introducing traditional building techniques that allow for natural ventilation to the communities in West Africa. By giving the community a framework within which to work, he encouraged the people of Burkina Faso to build houses that breathe.

Looking at various architectural projects in West Africa, Kéré points to the merits of clay building techniques.

Akɔaba, Woezɔ, Oɔbaake (welcome) to another episode of Link Up Podcast, where we connect with Abibifoɔ (Black People) doing Black powerful work across Abibiman (the Black Land) and the diaspora.

In this episode, we Link Up again with Ɔbenfo Ọbádélé Bakari Kambon for Part 2 of our Episode 11 discussion. This portion centers on the expanding institutional work growing out of Abibitumi, including the upcoming Abibitumi Conference, the Abibitumi/Abibifahodie Film Festival, the developing Abibiwiase television show, and the Open D.O.O.R. Dialogues. Ɔbenfo explains how these projects are connected through the larger mission of creating Black spaces that are not just online, but physical, organized, and rooted in Black liberation work.

We discuss the origins of the film festival, the need for independent Black-controlled media spaces, the transition from the original Film Festival idea into the Abibitumi/Abibifahodie Film Festival, and the development of Abibiwiase as an upcoming television show. The conversation also moves through the Open D.O.O.R. Dialogues, including the role of the University of Ghana, the College of Humanities, and endorsements from major Ghana institutions. This is a conversation about building Black venues, Black media, Black conferences, Black festivals, and Black institutional power without waiting for stench approval.

This is a conversation about raised consciousness becoming raised behavior, Black love as institution, and the work required to bring the whole family Black home.
