27 years on and Thomas Sankara's legacy still lives on. Sankara was a profound leader with deep love for his country, Burkina Faso. But he would not live long enough to see his vision change his country for better. He was assassinated.

"Faces of Africa" takes you through Sankara's journey and how his ideas have stuck in the minds of the young generation, now seeking to resuscitate the country's economic and political status.

This Tedx talks about how actions and steps young people see as "little" can make a difference in the lives of people and society. Tunde Onakoya is a Nigerian National Chess Master and coach. He founded Chess in Slums Africa in 2017. This non-profit organization utilizes the game of chess as a tool for social intervention—a bridge between disadvantaged kids and their ambitions, a framework to give children in impoverished communities access to tuition-free education, learning resources, and mentorship opportunities. Slowly and steadily, the project is rewriting a new narrative and building an inclusive future for every African child. During my visit, I stayed on a massive 43,000-hectare farm owned by a single German family which purchased the land from descendants of German settlers, who stole the land from the Herero and Nama people. This stark inequality left me outraged and compelled me to dive deeper into Namibia’s colonial past.I explore the horrific role of Lothar von Trotha, the German military officer responsible for orchestrating the Herero and Nama genocide—the first genocide of the 20th century. Through conversations with Germans living in Namibia, I was confronted with a troubling denial of this dark history, raising the question of accountability and reconciliation.This episode sheds light on how Germany has handled—or failed to handle—this chapter of its colonial past. Despite recent attempts at reparations, I question whether the nation has truly learned from history. By examining the effects of land theft and colonial injustice, I invite you to join me in reflecting on what justice and accountability should look like in post-colonial Africa.
