Its an honor to care for our parents in need. My mommy is battling dementia and high blood pressure. Ive repatriated her to ghana with me and we are taking this fight on together. Now I've gotten her off of all the white man drugs with side effects and she's taking a natural Afrikan holistic approach, healthy diet, exercise, and less stress, thus a healthy lifestyle. Let's go Mommy, together we can go far.

ORFC Global 2021 Session

Land theft is not a thing of the past. Samwel, Kathryn, Angie and June will be talking about the different ways communities are discriminated against through land theft and dispossession. Their conversation will focus on understanding that true food sovereignty demands local control of land. Samwel’s Maasai community has faced illegal sales of their land to foreign companies; Kathryn, representing KMP (the Peasant Movement of the Philippines), has been on the frontlines of organizing to gain land rights for the nine out of ten Filipino farmers that do not own the land they till. The Provosts have been the target of predatory loans, historical deprivation and racial discrimination. Together, they will explain how ownership of land is not a narrative around regeneration or sustainability. It is an argument around sovereignty over the very land they and their ancestors tended. To be truly food sovereign, the land must be in the hands of the local communities.

Speakers:
Samwel Nangiria
Kathryn Manga
June and Angie Provost

Chair:
Freya Yost

The Real Price of your Cell Phone | Mobile Phone | Investigative Documentary from 2014

A mobile phone is sold every 57 seconds meaning that there are now more mobile phones on the planet than toothbrushes. We investigated the shameful secrets of the multinationals who produce our mobile phones. They are the big winners of the mobile revolution as their profits explode but what is the human and environmental cost in the production countries of China and the Congo?
We bring exclusive footage from inside Chinese factories where scores of children are working long hours under arduous conditions. The multinationals claim they are doing all they can, but these shocking images say otherwise. In Africa the mines that retrieve minerals essential to components in our smartphones are dangerous and unregulated. Injuries and deaths occur regularly amongst workers just desperate to support their families. Whilst in China the environmental damage has scarred the landscape, emptied a village and possibly caused severe illness among the population.
We confront the major names in the smartphone industry with the realities that they would like to keep hidden.
