In today's video I visited the Gateway State, Ogun State. The 16th most populated and the 24th largest state in Nigeria. During my visit I toured the newly constructed airport, had an interview with the governor, and checked out how affordable the real estate is in Ogun State.

When the Soviet Union collapsed in 1990, Cuba's economy went into a tailspin. With imports of oil cut by more than half – and food by 80 percent – people were desperate. This film tells of the hardships and struggles as well as the community and creativity of the Cuban people during this difficult time. Cubans share how they transitioned from a highly mechanized, industrial agricultural system to one using organic methods of farming and local, urban gardens. It is an unusual look into the Cuban culture during this economic crisis, which they call "The Special Period." The film opens with a short history of Peak Oil, a term for the time in our history when world oil production will reach its all-time peak and begin to decline forever. Cuba, the only country that has faced such a crisis – the massive reduction of fossil fuels – is an example of options and hope.

Abibitumi honors Baba Runoko Rashidi
Some of you may not know this, but Baba Runoko Rashidi was a pioneer in online teaching long before it became a “thing”. Baba Runoko had a tremendous influence on the course and direction of Abibitumi in its formative years.
He taught courses such as "Around the World with Runoko Rashidi" (2008), "The Global African Presence" (2010, 2011), "A Tribute to Great Black Women in History" (2011), "Who is the Original Man?" (2012), "The Ancient African Diaspora/The Modern African Diaspora Lectures" (2012) and many more!
Because of the very special relationship he had with us at Abibitumi during our formative years, we think that it is only right to honor this legend, this giant in the best way possible.
It is in this spirit that we will honor the life's work and dedication of Baba Runoko Rashidi, who dedicated his very life to the work of connecting the Afrikan=Black family.
Who was Baba Runoko Rashidi?
Baba Runoko Rashidi described himself as a scholar, historian, author and a lecturer. Born in 1954, the historian was about 67 years old when he passed away.
He held frequent seminars about African History, Pan-Africanism, and focused his work specifically on the global African presence, which details the movement of Africans outside Africa before and after enslavement.
Baba Runoko Rashidi was also a highly successful author, having published collections of essays, as well as books about Black culture and Black history. He was a prolific academic writer, publishing 22 books across his career.
These include The Black Image In Antiquity, Black Star: The African Presence In Early Europe, as well as Uncovering The African Past.
Baba Runoko Rashidi had travelled across the world, visiting 124 countries, as well as lecturing and teaching in 67 of them. In 2005 he received an Honorary Doctorate from the Amen-Ra Theological Seminary in LA.
Recently he had been researching African artefacts, and African cultural presence in museums around the world. He had also been part of the curatorial and academic board of the Pan-African Heritage Museum since 2020.

Residents of Nairobi’s slums who can’t pay their rent get evicted and end up on the street. Over 90 percent of these tenants live in rented corrugated-metal shacks owned by slumlords with terrible reputations. The slumlords of Nairobi mercilessly exploit the poorest of poor. One young man was shot and killed over five months’ rent, while Agnes Muhavishe, who tries to make ends meet by producing and selling soap, was recently thrown out of her shack after falling six months behind with her payments. Her husband does odd jobs to feed their children. Many of slumlord Peter Chege’s shacks are now vacant, as the COVID-19 pandemic has forced many tenants struggling to pay their rent out of their homes. He sees himself as a loser in the crisis.

Nana Ampomah Kwakye, Chief of Kwahu Kotoso Akwamu, Shares His Experience with Kantanka Vehicle
In an exclusive conversation with Kwadwo Safo Studios, Nana Ampomah Kwakye, a respected chief of Kwahu Kotoso Akwamu, shared his excitement and experience after purchasing a Kantanka K71 PRO.
According to him, the reaction from the public has been overwhelming. “Each time I drive the car to work, people cheer me on,” he said. “They’re simply happy to see a Kantanka vehicle on the road.”
He recounted the first day he drove the K71 PRO to work and parked it in an unusual spot. To his surprise, a crowd gathered around the car, curious and amazed that such a stylish and high-quality vehicle was built right here in Ghana.
Nana Ampomah also highlighted some of his favorite features of the car. These included the reverse detector, the ability to connect the car’s screen to a mobile phone, and the fact that it is a brand-new, modern vehicle with impressive functionality.
He concluded by stressing the importance of national support, urging government, traditional leaders, and the Ghanaian public to rally behind Kantanka, emphasizing that “Kantanka carries greatness, and deserves our full support.”
