American officials are passing new regulations intended to drive Chinese companies out of our pharmaceutical supply chains. And drug companies seem to concur, as they say publicly that they, too, need to diversify away from China.

The reality is the opposite. US and European drugmakers make giant profits from the drugs that are manufactured in China, then licensed for sale in the American market. Their motivation is the enormous price difference, between what patients pay in the United States, compared to the rest of the world.

Philip Ball is a science writer, writing regularly for Nature and having contributed to publications ranging from New Scientist to the New York Times. He is the author of many popular books on science, including works on the nature of water, pattern formation in the natural world, colour in art, and the cognition of music, and he has also broadcast on many occasions on radio and TV.

Jim Al-Khalili is Professor of Theoretical Physics and Professor of Public Engagement in Science at University of Surrey. He is author of several popular science books and appears regularly on radio and television. In 2007, he was awarded the Royal Society Michael Faraday Prize for Science Communication.

The Malian authorities accuse Barrick Gold of owing $500m in unpaid taxes and have issued an arrest warrant for its CEO.
A Malian court has issued an arrest warrant for Mark Bristow, the Chief Executive Officer of Canadian multinational mining company, Barrick Gold Corp. He has been accused of money laundering and violating financial regulations, such as owing $500 million U.S dollars in unpaid taxes.
Last month, four senior Malian employees of Barrick Gold were also charged and detained. The Canadian firm, Barrick Gold Corp., owns the 2nd largest gold mining company in the world. The arrest warrant for Bristow comes as Mali's military government led by General Assimi Goïta, that seized power in 2020 increases pressure on foreign multinational miners in Mali.
Last month, Mali arrested the CEO, and two employees of Australian firm Resolute Mining. The firm agreed to pay $160 million in fines, to free its employees.

In this video, Robert explains his process for creating a PVC drip irrigation system for his raised square foot garden.

Robert also shows how he is using his rain barrel water system that can be controlled by his smart phone to turn the drip irrigation system on and off.

A comparison between class 200 and schedule 40 PVC is also performed, and Robert explains his thoughts between the two types.

Overall, Robert’s goal was to keep the overall cost low for creating a DIY PVC drip irrigation system but also making the system easy to disassemble, reassemble and flexible for different types of gardens.
