As far as African dictators go, there is probably no single greater illustration of the nuances and complexities that underpin dictatorships in Africa, than Joseph Desire Mobutu’s 31 year stint, as the leader of the nation known today as the DRC.

A self-proclaimed anti-communist who modelled his entire state apparatus after China’s chairman Mao. A self-styled African revolutionary, who collaborated with his country’s former colonisers to assassinate his own prime minister and a proud Afrocentric, whose love for European luxuries and prestige would see him seize control of an estimated one third of his country’s GDP and build a personal net worth nearly twice the size of his country’s national debt.

A paradoxical man from a nation of paradox. Mobutu may have been stereotypically arrogant and cruel, but he was far from a simpleton. His over 3 decades as Congo’s Supreme leader, would be built on a complex combination of evil genius, will power and good fortune.

Ivory Coast and Ghana signs agreement to determine global cocoa price - The Ghanaian and Ivorian governments have signed an Agreement in Accra for the Cote D'Ivoire - Ghana Cocoa Initiative Secretariat. This achievement will define both countries' bargaining leverage as the world's leading cocoa producers in deciding cocoa prices globally. The world's two largest cocoa suppliers, the Ivory Coast and Ghana, account for approximately two-thirds of global production, yet they have little influence over worldwide cocoa prices, which have remained low in recent times due to overproduction.
The global chocolate market is estimated to be valued at more than US $100 billion, with a few multinational corporations dominating the market.

Sudan government announce $643 Million investment in Railway Network redevelopment - The Sudan railway network, half of which is abandoned, is set for a US$ 643 million makeover as part of current Sudan government efforts to revive an economy ravaged by decades of dictatorship and global isolation. The African Development Bank, China State Construction Engineering Corp. Ltd., and unidentified Gulf firms, according to Sudan Railways Corporation (SRC), are keen on assisting the North African country in restoring the approximately 2,400 kilometers of idle rail lines.

The railway networking project will be carried out in stages. The government intends to spend US$17 million in the first stage on emergency repairs to parts of the network that are currently in use. This network, according to the SRC's general manager, Waleed Mahmoud Ahmed, during an interview with sudan news agency, is critical for the country's economic development.
