The Syliphone Years

Why is there something rather than nothing? And what does ‘nothing’ really mean? More than a philosophical musing, understanding nothing may be the key to unlocking deep mysteries of the universe, from dark energy to why particles have mass. Journalist John Hockenberry hosts Nobel laureate Frank Wilczek, esteemed cosmologist John Barrow, and leading physicists Paul Davies and George Ellis as they explore physics, philosophy and the nothing they share.

Consciousness is a terrible curse. Or so says a character in screenwriter/director Charlie Kaufman’s Being John Malkovich. Part theater of the absurd and part neuroscience fiction, the Oscar-winning filmmaker’s work captures the splintering between what we perceive and what we feel as our brains grapple with multiple layers of reality. Neuroscientist Giulio Tononi, one of the world’s leading sleep researchers, casts new light on the science of the mind, probing where and how consciousness is generated in the brain. Watch this spellbinding conversation between Kaufman, Tononi, and moderator Alan Alda as they explore and explain the art, science, and mystery of consciousness.

Agroforestry presents lots of opportunities for the organic grower: to grow new fruit and nut crops to sell; to produce wood and wood chip to use; to provide shelter and reduce flooding; and to provide habitat for other creatures.
In this webinar, we hear from experienced growers about the practical considerations, opportunities and pitfalls of agroforestry in organic horticulture.
Ben Raskin is head of horticulture and agroforestry at the Soil Association, a director of the Organic Growers Alliance, and an experienced grower who is currently establishing an agroforestry system at Eastbrook farm in Wiltshire.
John Tucker is director of woodland outreach at the Woodland Trust. John talks us through how to get started in agroforestry and what you should consider when deciding how to incorporate trees, from analysing your site and exploring your objectives, through to choosing species and getting trees in the ground.
Andy Dibben is head grower at Abbey Home Farm in Cirencester. He joins us to talk us through his experience of incorporating trees into the site and to share his learning and advice.
This webinar is a partnership between the CSA Network UK, the Seed Sovereignty Programme run by the Gaia Foundation, the Landworkers’ Alliance, and the Organic Growers Alliance and forms part of a webinar series funded by Farming the Future. Recorded on 24 February 2021.
This study aims to address combating cultural imperialism and cultural misorientation to preserve Abibifoɔ 'Black People' intangible cultural heritage noting that the priority must be on indigenous Abibifoɔ 'Black People' to push our own agenda. The study takes the 2019 UNESCO-ICM Open School as a case study in terms of substantive efforts (or lack thereof) to combat cultural imperialism and cultural misorientation. The study addresses matters of terminology, the implications of using the equal sign between Abibifoɔ 'Black People' and aborɔfoɔ concepts, cultural misorientation and disorientation, false narratives and alien-self/anti-self-disorders, soft power, what must be done in terms of combating these ills. The study concludes with a section addressing the way forward for the Abibifoɔ 'Black People' Warrior Tradition and Abibifoɔ 'Black People' Combat Scientists in light of the preservation of our intangible cultural heritage.
In her work of mentoring and training Youth on the best practices in the agriculture sector, YAFRA Uganda Visited Doctor Emma Naluyima, Uganda's top female youth agripreneur. The Youth were mentored on how to best gain from taking on agriculture as a career and to also change their attitude and mindset towards the sector to fight the challenge of youth unemployment. She emphasized to them that "Soil is gold" and thus they need not to fear to touch the soil for it is a very valuable factor of production that will easily transform their lives.
John Anari, Leader of WPLO and Ambassador of ULMWP to the United Nations was silent by Moderator of United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues (UNPFII) on April 22th, 2021 at Agenda Item 5 (d): Human rights dialogue with the Special Rapporteur on the rights of indigenous peoples and the Expert Mechanism on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples and the Voluntary Fund for Indigenous Peoples.

UN silenced West Papua's voice. In repetition of 2019 when the Permanent Forum for Indigenous Issues shouted across their room to silence the West Papuan speaker Mr John Anario, the United Nations using video broadcast in 2021 has again silenced Mr Anari as he presented West Papua's call for the United Nations to comply with its international legal obligations 27 seconds into their broadcast of his statement.

Low taxes have drawn many foreign companies to Mauritius and account for a huge portion of the country's $16 billion GDP. Mauritius is one of Africa's richest countries on per capita basis. However Mauritius long been shadowed by financial secrecy, with the island’s government overseeing LEGAL but QUESTIONABLE processes that have allowed global companies to siphon millions of tax dollars away from other African nations.

THE CIA: ON COMPANY BUSINESS
We once again examine that dark, vicious world of the CIA -- the use of U.S.
labor organizations, the overthrow of legitimate governments, providing arms
to favored groups, covert use of the American mass media, U.S. torture
schools and CIA torture supervisors abroad -- all resulting in great human
suffering and the deaths of hundreds of thousands of people and in the
maintenance of repressive regimes. Sections of the meticulously documented,
award-winning film _On Company Business_ are interspersed with the comments
of ex-CIA officer John Stockwell, and Molly Dougherty who worked on the
film. John also comments about the pending legal action against him by the
CIA, and a fundraiser for his legal defense fund, to be held at the
University of Texas.
