Louis Farrakhan, leader of the Nation of Islam, has spoken about the origin of the White race in various speeches and writings. He has often espoused a narrative that suggests that the White race was created through a selective breeding process by an evil scientist named Yakub, who lived 6,000 years ago. According to Farrakhan's teachings, Yakub, a Black scientist, initiated a eugenics program that led to the creation of the White race as a genetically inferior group meant to rule for a limited time before eventually being supplanted by people of color. It's important to note that these beliefs are specific to Farrakhan's teachings within the Nation of Islam.

Six white former police officers in Mississippi who called themselves the "Goon Squad" have pleaded guilty to raiding a home on false drug charges and torturing two Black men while yelling racist slurs at them, and then trying to cover it up. We speak with Michael Corey Jenkins and Eddie Terrell Parker about how, on January 24, six deputies in Braxton, Mississippi, raided the home they were staying in and attacked them, and how they are speaking out to demand justice. Meanwhile, the deputies have been linked to at least four violent attacks on Black men since 2019, in which two of the men died. We also speak with civil rights attorney Malik Shabazz, who is representing Jenkins and Parker in a federal lawsuit against the Rankin County Sheriff's Department. Shabazz asserts that the majority-white Rankin County, which is 20 miles away from majority-Black Jackson, Mississippi, is "infested with white supremacists" who "have decided 'Rankin County is for whites'" and seek to enforce it through state-sanctioned violence and torture, overseen and covered up by Rankin County Sheriff Bryan Bailey. "We demand that Bryan Bailey step down," says Shabazz. Parker adds, "We want justice for everyone that has gone through this with Rankin County."

Africa before colonialism with Drs.Litchfield-Tshabalala and Asad el-Malik (Part 1)
Black Culture Matters is a series hosted by the African American Studies Institute (AASI) at Prince George's Community College, revolving around this year’s theme: Resisting De-humanization through the Humanities.
The goal of this series is not to declare the value of Black lives to those who do not wish to acknowledge it. The goal is, instead, to examine the ways in which people of African descent have expressed their own humanity, to affirm the meaning-making with which they have resisted being "thingified."
These four (4) lecture-discussions will not only offer historical and cultural context for the given topics; they will also challenge the community to think about how expanded knowledge might inform the racially charged present moment.

Kirango is an old village on the banks of the Niger river, 35 km from Ségou. The village is inhabited by Bamana (farmers) and Bozo/Somono (fishermen). Both ethnic groups celebrate their masquerades, each in their own way.
The masquerade of the Bamana ('sogo bò' - the animal comes out) is organized by the 'ton' (youth association) every jear, in June. It comprises ‘sogow’ (animals): masks and large puppets that represent spirits, animals (domestic, wild, or mythical), and human personages.
They are accompanied by drumming, singing and dancing.
