Dr. Okunini Talawa Adodo is a Jamaican Pan-Afrikanist scholar who focuses on Afrikan history, Afrocentric theory, and Afrikan language.
In Part 1 of this insightful reasoning, Dr. Okunini Talawa Adodo explores the theory that the name "Jamaica" may not have originated with the Taíno people, but rather from the Akan language—specifically the phrase Gyamere Yaka, meaning “we are stuck.” Dr. Adodo also challenges the popular belief that Jamaica is simply a country of mixed people, instead offering the perspective that it is a land of diverse African ethnic groups who arrived from different regions of the continent.

Chinguetti is the seventh holiest city of Islam. For centuries, at the time of date collection, nomadic families were cited in the nearby palm forests. In recent years, the gradual abandonment of nomadism further separated families, and Getna, the date party, is now a meeting between nomadic and sedentary, among those still living grazing and those who have migrated to the capital or abroad. This is the story of the reunion of one of those families.

This is what happens when Western philanthropists try to ‘fix’ hunger in developing countries. Neelam Tailor investigates how philanthropic efforts by the Gates Foundation, The Rockefeller Foundation, and the organisation they set up in Africa called AGRA, set out to revolutionise farming in Africa, but may have made things worse for the small-scale farmers who produce 70% of the continent’s food. From seed laws that criminalise traditional practices, to corporate partnerships with agribusiness giants like Monsanto and Syngenta, we explore how a well-funded Green Revolution has led to rising debt, loss of biodiversity, and deepening food insecurity across the continent.📌 Chapters:00:00 Intro00:55 Africa’s traditional farming systems01:47 When the philanthropists got involved03:39 This isn’t new: the previous Green Revolution05:22 Corporate control over seeds06:58 Farmers are fighting backAbout:It's Complicated is a new channel from @theGuardian bringing you weekly videos about the hows and why behind the stories that matter. The Guardian (https://www.theguardian.com/) has been providing high-impact, independent journalism since 1821, always free from commercial and political influence. Reneilwe Morema reports on Burkina Faso officially producing Their own gold Bars, Thanks To Ibrahim Traore. The gold bars seen in the video are the first since the country assumed control of their gold mines. Africa's youngest leader also paid off a 4,7 billion dollar debt after taking control of gold minning in Burkina Faso! The first youngest African leader since the independence of Africa to completely liberate his people, both emotionally and financially from the grip of their colonizers, BREAKING THE NEO-COLONIZATION trend that is currently happening with most African leaders.
Many political experts fear that this POWERFUL MOVE will literally put a target on his back, as many Western missionaries will sought to eliminate him.

Once teeming with life, Lake Mai Ndombe (meaning Black Water) in the Congo Basin is now depleted and local communities face starvation. The vanishing fish population can be traced back to an unlikely culprit, but they have a hopeful solution at the Mai Ndombe REDD+ Project that could turn the tide.--------------------------------Black Water is a poignant exploration of survival and resilience deep in the remote forest of the Congo Basin at the Mai Ndombe REDD+ Project. This short film delves into the lives of a local community around Lake Mai Ndombe (Lake of ‘Black Water’) in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. This once bountiful body of water now teeters on the brink of collapse. Over the years, the lake’s vibrant fish population has dwindled, threatening the livelihoods of those who have relied on its resources for generations. The film traces this ecological decline back to an unexpected source: mosquito nets. Originally introduced by aid organizations to combat malaria, these finely meshed nets found a new, unintended purpose as fishing tools. However, their use has come at a steep cost, leading to the overfishing of even the youngest fish, disrupting the delicate balance of life within the lake. Through intimate interviews and breathtaking visuals, Black Water captures the struggle of the lake's surrounding communities as they face the harsh reality of dwindling resources. It explores the cultural and generational shifts brought on by the environmental crisis, revealing the deep connection between the people and the lake that sustains them. Amidst the struggle, Black Water captures a glimmer of hope. The communities, in partnership with Wildlife Works, have embarked on an ambitious project to restore their ecosystem. By using their profits from carbon credits earned through forest conservation, they have built sustainable fish nurseries. This project not only offers a lifeline to those on the brink of starvation but also holds the promise of restoring balance to the lake's fragile ecosystem. Black Water is a powerful testament to resilience, the importance of community-driven solutions, and the enduring spirit of a people determined to secure a sustainable future for their children. For more community stories, sign up for our newsletter: https://wildlifeworks.activehosted.com/f/1

Epomis is a genus of ground beetles(Carabidae). The larvae of this genus are notable for being obligate role reversal predators.[1] Amphibians such as frogs are normally predators of beetles, however Epomis larvae feed exclusively on amphibians.
