Full presentation: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q1GFqTGpvzg

This is the fuller version of the presentation I delivered at the Re-Engaging Pan-Africanism Conference at Birmingham City University, Dec 2018.

The presentation explores the relationship between Culture & Economics as an attempt to:
Rescue "culture" from reductive definitions by demonstrating the relationship between it & economic development.
Demonstrate how revolutionary movements have pursued economic development from a culturally appropriate foundation.
Its pre-recorded, but will be broadcast with a live chat. I look forward to hearing your feedback.

The video gives a brief description on the rites of passage in the olden days according to my culture. Through it, we learnt our responsibilities, rites and the consequences of non-compliance.

We were also taught how things were done and why we had or not do them. Respect was highly valued and we had to respect our elders so as to receive blessings from God.

This mondo-style documentary was shot by American filmmakers during a voyage to the African wilderness, and offers a glimpse of life in the vanishing primitive tribes. However, the film prefers to focus on the more exploitable elements of life among the indigenous cultures, such as a real life witch doctor performing brain surgery without anesthetic, group mating rituals, blood drinking, the slaughter of animals, human sacrifice and other examples of sex and violence in the "Dark Continent." Kwaheri was released in the United States by exploitation kingpin Kroger Babb, who billed it as "the film that stretches your eyes."
