The Dahomey Amazons were an all-female military regiment of the Kingdom of Dahomey which existed from the 1600s until 1904. They are one of the few documented female armies in modern history. The leader, King Ghezo refused to end the raids and sale of slaves when the British abolished slavery and slavery through the ports. They were notorious for ravaging peaceful villages, beheadings and thousands of custom sacrifices of captured people. The also hand many friendly dealings with Francisco Felix de Souza, (The Great Slave Trader) who was very close to King Ghezo.

Officials in the United States look upon Africans as people “in need of help” or people who “need to be told what to do”, and this is destroying relations between Africa and Washington, according to the former African Union representative to the US, Arikana Chihombori-Quao.
“The US needs to call a timeout and treat Africans with respect,” Chihombori told host Steve Clemons, adding that the US-Africa Leaders Summit hosted by the White House this week “will fail unless Americans see Africans as equals".
Chihombori-Quao argues that pan-African unity is the only path for the continent to be less dependent on outside powers.

Nigeria grows 63 million metric tons of cassava (also known as yuca or manioc) every year, but most of the country's supply is eaten locally as fufu or garri. Experts say Nigeria could be missing out on billions in exports of lucrative cassava products like bubble tea pearls, starch, or ethanol. Challenges along the country's entire supply chain have caused hundreds of millions of dollars in cassava spoilage. But one entrepreneur, Yemisi Iranloye, thinks she has the solution. She's introduced higher-yielding seed varieties and moved processing plants closer to farms. Now, her farmers earn four times more for their product, and her cassava starch and sorbitol have landed her clients like Nestle and Unilever. Could Yemisi's model be the way for Nigeria to feed itself and cash in on exports?

Food Globalization: The Truth Behind Cheap Food | Investigative Documentary from 2013
Who’s paying the real price for the cheap food in our supermarkets? We investigate the conditions under which three staples – bananas, vegetables and fish – are produced. In Italy, illegal workers from sub-Saharan Africa live in appalling conditions, working long hours under the control of omnipotent ‘caporalatos’. In Cameroon, the banana industry stands accused of appropriating land, polluting the environment and bribing local politicians. Meanwhile in Guinea, fish stocks are plundered by foreign fleets. The African workers on these ships are often exploited and abused.
