Water is in short supply in much of the world - but what if we use seawater? It's been a dream for many years, but now technology is making it possible. This new seawater greenhouse uses a clever cardboard design to distill fresh water from salt water cheaply and efficiently. It's helping grow crops in Somaliland, and could help stop the water crisis in Africa and other parts of the world that are susceptible to drought. The founder of Seawater Greenhouse, Charlie Paton, explains how unlike traditional greenhouses - which are hothouses - this one is a "cool house" that is ideal for growing temperate crops in deserts or other hot, arid regions. Cargo Cult Summer Series

A large portion of the Namibian rangeland has been incised by erosion gullies down which much of the rainwater flows away, leaving the rangeland drier and less productive than in the past. Application of grazing management is usually insufficient on its own to restore protective grass cover where gullies dry the landscape. Therefore, various restoration techniques have been applied in different sites, relying mainly on local resources.

⁣Africans have been conditioned to think they are poor. In this latest episode of The African Narratives, the creative director of Africa Web TV, Femi Soewu, gives his take on the believe that Africans are poor. Being devoid of luxury is not the same as being poor. Why are Africans always trying to compare themselves with Europeans? Why are we always trying to run the European race? Why is it that we are only happy when we have all those big buildings in Africa? Why are Africans only happy when they get a European seal of approval?

⁣Four Africans who grew up in the US/Canada recently travelled together around Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger to meet with grassroots organisations and ministries in the Alliance of Sahel States (AES) - to figure out what is going on and what the mood is in the Sahel region. The Thomas Sankara Centre organised the delegation in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, together with the Coalition for the Elimination of Imperialism in Africa based in the diaspora.
