The theme for the forum is “Leveraging Technology to Prevent Post Harvest Loss”.

Sufficient Food Supply is imperative for an economy to thrive especially in these times of uncertainty. Research has shown that global food production has reached a record high in recent years; however, one third of all food produced for human consumption is lost or wasted, this is equivalent to 1.3 billion tons.

Some of these losses occur on the farm, during harvest, gathering, and others occur while commodities are in transit, during offloading (due to poor handling), and in varying degrees in the entire value chain and this has led to food insecurity for millions of families in Nigeria and across the World.

In some developing countries, small holder farmers regularly lose 40 percent of their harvest due to inadequate storage facilities or equipment.

Achieving zero loss in Agriculture is unfeasible; however, we can reduce this loss to a large extent by continually creating awareness and building waste management capacities.

Sequential hermaphroditism occurs when an organism changes sex at some point in its life. It’s seen in a few species of gastropods and plants, but mostly fish, like napoleon wrasse, clownfish, groupers and marine angelfish. This transformation involves the complete restructuring of their gonads, as well as changes in their morphology and behaviour. For these fish, sex change is a usual part in their life cycle, and it’s one that carries adaptive advantages.

Solar System for Home: On Grid Solar System vs. Off Grid Solar System | Luminous Solar

The world is turning to solar energy - for sustainability and cost effectiveness. In this video, Luminous is talking about the two types of solar system for home - The On Grid solar System & Off Grid Solar System. Both these systems are similar and different in one key aspect, which is whether you want to save excess electricity generated and use it for running electronic appliances or you don't want to use excess electricity. Other than that, basic components like the solar panels, the solar battery and the solar inverter are common in both these systems.

If you were faced with the question of which one is better - that is on-grid vs offgrid solar system, then how would you answer that?

The basic difference between the two is that On-Grid works with the Grid system, while Off-Grid works independently off it. In the On-Grid system, the solar panels convert the solar energy into DC current and the inverter converts the DC current into AC current to power your home or business Any excess current that the solar panels create is fed back into the grid as credit which can be later drawn back in based on the requirement. However, the On-Grid system does not work during power outages so while it is cost effective, it is best used in places where the power cuts are minimum.

So what about places where there is high power outages or there is no power supply at all?
This is where the Off-Grid solar system is effective. This type of Grid system works even when there is no supply from the mains or when the solar panels don’t generate electricity.

Oliver Laurence North (born October 7, 1943) is an American political commentator, television host, military historian, author, and retired United States Marine Corps lieutenant colonel. He was convicted in the Iran–Contra affair of the late 1980s, but his convictions were vacated and reversed, and all charges against him dismissed in 1991.

North is primarily remembered for his term as a National Security Council staff member during the Iran-Contra affair, a political scandal of the late 1980s. The scandal involved the illegal sale of weapons to Iran to encourage the release of U.S. hostages then held in Lebanon. North formulated the second part of the plan, which was to divert proceeds from the arms sales to support the Contra rebel groups in Nicaragua, which had been specifically prohibited under the Boland Amendment. North was granted limited immunity from prosecution in exchange for testifying before Congress about the scheme.

The ⁣CIA-backed Contras were filling their coffers by collaborating with drug traffickers then flooding U.S. borders with cocaine from South America that was funneled into the Black community to continue US government repression of political dissent, agitation and revolutionary activities.
