A pack of hyenas took down a zebra when a lioness showed up trying to steal from the hyenas and almost got a mauling from the hyenas, when suddenly a big male lion appears and the hyenas scatter away. Hyenas are more afraid of male lions because male lions usually have a reputation of dealing with hyenas whenever they have an encounter with them.

African History Club recording of a speech by Dr. Yosef Ben-Jochannan on Founder's Day 1979. Shared for historical purposes.Yosef Alfredo Antonio Ben-Jochannan (/ˈbɛn ˈjoʊkənən/; December 31, 1918 – March 19, 2015), referred to by his admirers as "Dr. Ben", was an American writer and historian. He was considered to be one of the more prominent Afrocentric scholars by some Black Nationalists, while most mainstream scholars[who?] dismissed him because of the basic historical inaccuracies in his work, as well as disputes about the authenticity of his educational degrees and academic credentials. - wikipediaA1 Dr. Yosef Ben-Jochannan B1 Dr. Yosef Ben-Jochannan B2 Rev. The Democratic Republic of the Congo produces nearly three-quarters of the world's cobalt, an essential component in rechargeable batteries powering laptops, smartphones and electric vehicles. But those who dig up the valuable mineral often work in horrific and dangerous conditions, says Siddharth Kara, an international expert on modern-day slavery and author of _Cobalt Red: How the Blood of the Congo Powers Our Lives_. In an in-depth interview, he says the major technology companies that rely on this cobalt from DRC to make their products are turning a blind eye to the human toll and falsely claiming their supply chains are free from abuse, including widespread child labor. "The public health catastrophe on top of the human rights violence on top of the environmental destruction is unlike anything we've ever seen in the modern context," says Kara. "The fact that it is linked to companies worth trillions and that our lives depend on this enormous violence has to be dealt with."

This is the fuller version of the presentation I delivered at the Re-Engaging Pan-Africanism Conference at Birmingham City University, Dec 2018.
The presentation explores the relationship between Culture & Economics as an attempt to:
Rescue "culture" from reductive definitions by demonstrating the relationship between it & economic development.
Demonstrate how revolutionary movements have pursued economic development from a culturally appropriate foundation.
Its pre-recorded, but will be broadcast with a live chat. I look forward to hearing your feedback.

Kwame Nkrumah was the leader of Ghana from independence until his deposition by a CIA-back coup d'etat in 1966, as well as one of the principal political and philosophical leaders of the Pan-African movement. While friendly with countries such as the Soviet Union, Nkrumah's Ghana was part of the non-aligned movement, and Nkrumah's political philosophy is typically described as a syncretic mixture of Marxism and traditional African cultural ideas.
While the defeats of socialist experiments in West African countries like Ghana and Guinea-Conakry urge reflection on the successes and failures of these ideologies and movements, Nkrumah remains a key figure in the history and competing ideologies of African liberation movements, and thus he, and Neo-Colonialism: The Last Stage of Imperialism, his most famous work, merit study in order to enrich our understanding of African history.

One of the most amazing stories in the natural world -- a tale of intrigue and drama, set against grand Africa and its wildlife.
The fig tree and fig wasp differ in size a billion times over, but neither could exist without the other. Their extraordinary relationship underpins a complex web of dependency that supports animals from ants to elephants. Each fig is a microcosm -- a stage set for birth, sex and death.
