Welcome back to Powered by Nyame! Glad you could join for yet another episode. In this week's installment, we focus on the concepts of paradise and plantation and zero in on slavery as a power relationship that taps, ultimately, the spirit/energy or spiritual power base of the enslaved. Power is genderless and race-less, which means a "slave" is a de-personalized thing, a prop, that has relinquished their power base to an individual, institution, or another authority. We experience paradise on the backs of plantation lives, but what if the those lives denied paradise and reclaimed their spiritual power base? What kind of just(ified) world might we have?

"The Shift" is about a major internal and external shift taking place within humanity in the last few decades but predominantly the year 2020. It indicates how we are asking more questions, raising our vibration, meditating more, practicing more patience, empathy, awareness and a radical form of self love never seen before. It also talks about the beginning of a New Age that we have entered in on December 21st 2020, Age of Aquarius. The Information Age. The Age of awakening. We can see the inner and outer transformation happening within our life and we are learning to become more intuned with self and balancing our emotions. We are learning to observe not absorb all the things that get thrown at us in our lifetime. Welcome to The Shift.

Six white former police officers in Mississippi who called themselves the "Goon Squad" have pleaded guilty to raiding a home on false drug charges and torturing two Black men while yelling racist slurs at them, and then trying to cover it up. We speak with Michael Corey Jenkins and Eddie Terrell Parker about how, on January 24, six deputies in Braxton, Mississippi, raided the home they were staying in and attacked them, and how they are speaking out to demand justice. Meanwhile, the deputies have been linked to at least four violent attacks on Black men since 2019, in which two of the men died. We also speak with civil rights attorney Malik Shabazz, who is representing Jenkins and Parker in a federal lawsuit against the Rankin County Sheriff's Department. Shabazz asserts that the majority-white Rankin County, which is 20 miles away from majority-Black Jackson, Mississippi, is "infested with white supremacists" who "have decided 'Rankin County is for whites'" and seek to enforce it through state-sanctioned violence and torture, overseen and covered up by Rankin County Sheriff Bryan Bailey. "We demand that Bryan Bailey step down," says Shabazz. Parker adds, "We want justice for everyone that has gone through this with Rankin County."

Black men (Km) are often celebrated for their great accomplishments in times of war (Buffalo Soilders, Tuskegee Airmen, n.k.), however, many of these celebrated soilders were fighting for non-Black (aAmw) nations, and against their own Black interests. This quick video shines a light on this issue.

The remote island of St Helena, a British overseas territory, is best known for Napoleon's tomb – the island's biggest tourist attraction. While overseeing the construction of a long-awaited airport on the island, Annina van Neel learns that the remains of thousands of formerly enslaved Africans have been uncovered, unearthing one of the most significant traces of the transatlantic slave trade in the world. Annina decides to advocate for this legacy, initiating a debate among the islanders – many of whom have shared ancestry with the enslaved – about how to create an appropriate memorial. Along the way, she enlists the help of African American preservationist and veteran activist Peggy King Jorde, who makes important connections in their shared history.

Buried is available with Swahili and isiZulu translated subtitles which can be applied in video settings. The synopsis is available in both languages below.

Ukungcwatshwa: indlela esikhetha ukukukhumbula ngayo ukuthengiswa kwezigqila olwandle lwase-Atlantic

Drinking coffee is a daily activity for many people across the world. Whether you use an electric coffee maker, a French press or any other type of coffee brewing method, you may be wondering how you can avoid throwing all those spent coffee grounds into the garbage.
Here are 6 ways to recycle your used coffee grounds.

1.Add coffee grounds to your compost. One of the simplest ways to use leftover grounds is to add them to the rest of your compost. In addition to providing extra organic matter, coffee grounds are able to speed up the decomposing process in compost. Coffee grounds make excellent “green” matter as they are rich in nitrogen.  Also, beneficial worms may be attracted to your compost with the addition of old coffee grounds.  If you add a lot of coffee grounds to your compost, balance it out by adding some “brown” matter like dry leaves, twigs, newspaper, straw, corn husks, sawdust, and so on.

2.Absorb Food Odors.
Used coffee grounds can be used much like baking soda for absorbing food odors in the refrigerator and freezer.  Just load up a small open container with your old grounds, place it in the back of the fridge, then forget about it for a couple of weeks while you collect more grounds.  As an added bonus, after you remove smelly old grounds from the refrigerator or freezer, you can then toss them on the compost pile or use them as fertilizer!
3.Fertilize Your Garden.
If you grow azaleas, hydrangeas, rhododendrons, camellias, roses, or other acid-loving plants, then used coffee is the fertilizer for you!  Mix your old grounds with dead grass clippings, brown leaves, or dry straw to neutralize some of the acidity, then spread them around your plants.  Used coffee grounds add nitrogen and potassium to the soil as well as boosts magnesium which all plants need to stay healthy.
4.Use grounds to deter pests. Slugs and snails can chew-up your most prized plants, but they are not fond of coffee grounds. Sprinkle a handful of grounds around the bases of plants you want to protect. If you're worried about increasing the acidity of the soil, make a solid ring of grounds farther away from the base. Coffee ground can also be used to keep fluffy away from your delicate plants.

5.Exfoliate Skin.
Coffee grounds make an excellent exfoliating body scrub!  Just add used grounds to a bit of warm water or your favorite all-natural oil (coconut oil works great!)  Then scrub your skin from head to foot to remove all of those icky dead skin cells.

6.Cellulite Treatment.
cellulite has many causes and for every cause there are at least a dozen “cures”
simple mix of used coffee grounds and warm. Use this scrub for ten minutes twice per week on any areas affected by cellulite.  Results should start to become apparent within four weeks of steady treatment.

Here is the step by step video of our baling process, a process that any farmer can bring on with few local materials and usual manpower!

Step 1- Prepare the ropes in the right position in our wooden box ;
Step 2- Filling the wooden box with our hay and step on it to press it well;
Step 3- Tightening the ropes edges as we are "packing" the bale;
Step 4- Pull out of the box our well tighten bale and store it!

With this method, our bales of brachiaria grass can be stored for 3 years and more, ready to be used when we will need to feed our cows!

Rediscover the forest through the fresh viewpoint of a Papuan chief born in Papua New Guinea: Mundiya Kepanga, the "child of the forest". This traditional storyteller unveils the extent of the deforestation that has drastically accelerated in his country in recent years.

Following his journey as an environmental defender, from his own village to the largest international symposiums, the film delivers a new way to look at the planet: our forests are a universal heritage that we have to save.

Committed to this cause, Mundiya Kepanga becomes an ambassador of the forest and the voice of indigenous people. A call to protect the world’s primal forests, reminding us that we are all the brothers of the trees.
