On this episode of Yediemu we got closer to the elders of Akuapim to tell us the history of the people of Akuapim, he told the history as follows ; The Odwira festival is celebrated by the chiefs and peoples of Fanteakwa District and Akuapem in the Eastern Region of Ghana. The Odwira Festival is celebrated by the people of Akropong-Akuapim, Aburi, Larteh, and Mamfe. This is celebrated annually in the month of September and October. The festival celebrates a historic victory over the Ashanti]s in 1826. This was the battle of Katamansu near Dodowa. It was first celebrated in October 1826.

This was during the reign of the 19th Okuapimhene of Akropong, Nana Addo Dankwa (I) from 1811 to 1835. It is a time of spiritual purification where the people are renewed and receive protection. It is also celebrated by the people of Jamestown in Accra. This is due to the associations formed through the intermarriages of the Ga and Akuapem people.

Customarily, the scheduling of the festival occurs simultaneously with the reaping season when there is bumper food; during which gratitude is shown to the Ancestors by the people. Being a yam festival, thanksgiving for the bumper reap is principally demonstrated in the "giving food to the ancestors".

We always talk about how Europeans enslaved immense numbers of Africans. We usually don't talk about the parties actually involved or not involved in that slave trade. What we also don't talk about are other slave trades that were even bigger and lasted longer, like the Eastern (Islamic) Slave Trade.

Western media choose selective moral outrage, and while Western schools teach their youth about their own faults, the Islamic World is far from being honest. Therefore I choose to talk about this dark history, and I hope to spread more awareness so that more and more people can know and talk about the cruelties of the Islamic world.

Far from being a tragedy for Africa, the demise of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) at the hands of President Donald Trump's administration should be cause for celebration, argues Arikana Chihombori-Quao, the former ambassador of the African Union to the US.

Chihombori-Quao tells host Steve Clemons that USAID doesn’t have much to show for its decades of education and healthcare projects in Africa and often destabilised countries under the guise of environmental, human rights or social justice agendas.

And if the US is not interested in Africa, African leaders shouldn’t beg for better relations, she said. “It takes two to tango,” the former diplomat said.

After giving birth to her first child, popular singer Iza's newborn became the topic of criticism after fans saw the child's white skin. In an era of black pride in Brazil, many fans take pride in the ascension of a brown-skinned singer such as Iza. As such, they expected to see a darker-skinned child. The criticisms serve as an example of the changing racial politics in Brazil today.

⁣Welcome back, ABIBITUMI Kmtyw family!
If you're passionate about African development, sovereignty, and leaders who take bold steps to change the game, you're in for a treat today. We have an exciting update on a project that could reshape the economy of Burkina Faso and perhaps even set a blueprint for other African nations. We're talking about President Ibrahim Traore and the MASSIVE tomato processing factory that is finally complete! Can you believe it? This project is a game-changer, and in today’s video, we’re going to dive deep into what this means for the country and the region. Stick around because you won’t want to miss the details. Now, let’s start with a question: Do you think it’s possible for a single factory to revolutionize an entire nation’s economy? Think about that for a moment because this isn't just about tomatoes—it’s about independence, empowerment, and reclaiming control of resources that have long benefited outsiders rather than the people of Burkina Faso.
