Decades have passed since Apartheid came to an end, but South Africa remains divided. One reason is the legacy of its urban planning, which forced many Black South Africans to the periphery of cities.

Caribbean to Caliphate - People & Power
The Caribbean state of Trinidad and Tobago is traditionally most famous for its spectacular annual carnival, its cricketing prowess and of being the birthplace of calypso music. But more recently it's been getting a more disturbing reputation - as the nation with the highest recruitment rates of ISIL fighters in the Western Hemisphere.
So why have so many young Trinidadians been driven to travel thousands of kilometres to participate in the conflicts in Iraq and Syria?
According to Imam Yasin Abu Bakr, the leader of the Jamaat al-Muslimeen group, one of the lead causes why young, black men are joining ISIL is their marginalisation.
"The Africans are going to a pool of unemployment, they just sit in the ghetto and do nothing. And then drugs come in and it's a haven for the drugs. And now the guns are in and so the murder rate is just spiralling out of control," says Abu Bakr.
People & Power sent correspondent Juliana Ruhfus and director Dom Rotheroe to investigate how the Caribbean island nation has become a recruitment hub for ISIL.

This Participatory Video, produced by the people of Lamin, Makumbaya, and Mandinari, in the West Coast Region of The Gambia looks into the contentious issue of land grabbing. It captures the ordeal of land owners from three communities, regarding the forceful seize and sale of their lands by one Lamin Jarju, a resident of Babylon who has claimed ownership of and chieftaincy over the said farmlands.
Babylon, the area of land in question has been historically a large farmland utilized by the people of Lamin, Makumbaya, and Mandinari for their farming activities. Most of them rely on these farms to earn a living. It is not a recognized settlement legally speaking, thus has no chief. Albeit this reality, there is this tussle of ownership of these lands, leaving many people dissatisfied and frustrated.
Numerous attempts have been made to solicit support from various government institutions for them to intervene to find a lasting solution to this issue but nothing was achieved. The video essentially captures numerous stories of struggle for sustenance and justice.Facilitated by Gambia Participates, with support from the ATJLF.

Today, we will end this series of three discussions by centering our discussion on one of the two most central issues in African and African American Culture, the Black Family and the Black Extended Family.
. We have our guest Dr. Serie McDougal author of the book Black Men’s Studies Black Manhood and Masculinities in the US Context. Review Dr. McDougal’s background.
3 I will provide an African historical context for the nature of the Black family in the U.S., the Caribbean, South America and Europe. The paradigm or model for African families was discovered by me after I had the most beautiful experience of my life, when I piped into the mind of God and was privileged to have revealed to me the basis for African families. Since the family is the foundation of society, the way African families operated was the way the larger society functioned. This family model derived from the world’s first people who came into being 140,000 years ago, the Twa, who are the mothers and fathers of humanity, and who lived in the highest state of civilization in the history of the world.

SYNOPSIS
Set in fifteenth-century West Africa, Malika: Warrior Queen follows the exploits of Queen and military commander, Malika, who struggles to keep the peace in her ever-expanding empire. Growing up as a prodigy, Malika inherited the crown from her father in the most unusual of circumstances, splitting the Kingdom of Azzaz in half. After years of civil war, Malika was able to unite all of Azzaz, expanding it into one of the largest empires in all of West Africa.
But expansion would not come without its costs. Enemies begin to rise within her council, and Azzaz grabbed the attention of the most feared superpower the world has ever known: the Songhai Empire. As Malika fights to win the clandestine civil war within the walls of her empire, she must now turn her attention to an indomitable and treacherous foe that plans to vanquish her entire people. From dragons to mythical relics, a feuding royal family and magical swords, the story of Malika: Warrior Queen stays true to the fantasy genre while adding something new by setting familiar concepts in an awe-inspiring African setting.
