In Senegal, where farming employs 70% of the population, desertification and land erosion have led to food insecurity. This video shows how researchers supported by the Climate Change Adaptation in Africa program worked with farmers to identify and implement farming strategies that protect against further desertification and improve yields under these new conditions.
Produced by A24 Media, this is part of a series of six videos on research supported by CCAA.
The Climate Change Adaptation in Africa research and capacity development program (2006-2012) was a joint initiative of Canada's International Development Research Centre and the United Kingdom's Department for International Development (DFID).

In part 3, after some unforseen cow drama, including an unfilmed farmer/customer/police standoff, we finally get to the celebration. Part 4 (coming soon) we get some much needed downtime!
These are completely candid, random videos I slapped together with no real plan/script. Just got caught up in the trip.

Efrat Yerday, Ph.D. Candidate in Sociology at Tel Aviv University, Israel's Chairperson of the Association of Ethiopian Jews, and the 2020 recipient of the New Israel Fund's “Guardian of Democracy” Gallanter Prize, presents a public talk that was recorded on Feb. 10 on Ethiopian Jews' struggle for naturalization between 1955-1975.The story of Ethiopian Jewish immigration to Israel typically begins after 1975.
But foregrounding the pre-1975 years offers a unique case study for understanding the Israeli-Jewish citizenship regime and immigrants who do not conform to the normative and racialized national character of citizenship.
This talk is part of Protest, Race and Citizenship across African Worlds Winter 2021 Online Lecture Series. Sponsored by the Henry M. Jackson School of International Studies and African Studies Program, in partnership with the Center for Global Studies, Comparative History of Ideas, Near Eastern Languages & Civilization, Simpson Center for the Humanities at the University of Washington and the Henry M. Jackson Foundation. This lecture was additionally sponsored by the Stroum Center for Jewish Studies at the University of Washington.

Baba Fẹlá in the lyrics lampoons the Black People who had been to eurasia or amerikkka to work or study, and then returned (dropped) home with eurasian pretensions and an inferiority complex about Afrikan=Black culture.
If you ever thought water shortages were an issue only for the distant future, think again. In Burkina Faso, water is as valuable as gold, and finding it has been one of the country’s biggest struggles for decades. But now, President Ibrahim Traoré has launched an ambitious water project that no one before him—not the Belgians, not Médecins Sans Frontières, not the UN, not the numerous NGOs—was able to fully solve.
For years, experts from all over the world tried and failed to crack Burkina Faso’s water crisis. Drilling boreholes, digging wells, and diverting water sources—none of these efforts provided a long-term solution. But now, Ibrahim Traoré has a masterplan that could change everything.

With ever more refined techniques for measuring complex brain activity, scientists are challenging the understanding of thought, memory and emotion–what we have traditionally called “the self.” How do electrical and chemical currents translate to self-awareness? And why does the brain produce consciousness at all? Join a discussion among eminent neuroscientists, philosophers and psychologists who are redefining what it means to be human.
This program is part of the Big Ideas Series, made possible with support from the John Templeton Foundation.
Original Program Date: June 5, 2016
