Researchers have offered a chemical explanation for sex change in a tropical fish. ↓↓More info and references below↓↓

For a tropical fish called the bluehead wrasse, sex isn’t always permanent. When a group of the fish loses its dominant male, the biggest female rapidly changes sex, taking on distinctive male coloring and producing mature sperm in as little as 8 days. Although this change is well documented, the molecular mechanisms that drive it have remained unclear. Now, an international group of researchers has offered a chemical explanation for the transformation after analyzing tissue samples from transitioning fish.

The Archaic Humans of West Afrika

The video challenges the idea that modern West Africans primarily descend from ancient West Africans, pointing to the Ogolian hyper-arid period and dominance by archaic humans. Despite the existence of "ghost archaic DNA," modern West Africans trace their ancestry to the Shum Laka culture, not the archaic humans. Recent studies by Arun Durvasula and Sriram Sankararaman suggest introgression by an unidentified archaic hominin, contributing 2 to 19% of present-day Africans' ancestry. Specific genes with high archaic segment frequencies prompt the need for further analysis of modern and ancient African genomes. Despite attempts to misinterpret data for racist agendas, Marc Lipson et al.'s findings indicate modern West Africans derive 2% from archaic humans, 10% from the first Homo Sapien Sapiens in Africa, and 88% from a Hapi River Valley continuum.

But just as Nkrumah’s revolutionary leadership in Ghana, would trigger a wave of independence movements all across sub-saharan Africa, his gradual decline and sudden overthrow would also become a familiar story across virtually all of Africa’s newly independent states.

This is the story of how Dr Kwame Nkrumah went from being Ghana’s messiah and a faultless hero to a political pariah, whose ultimate demise would lead to wild celebrations in the streets by the very same people that had once loved and adored him.

Using enormous technical resources, the Libyans have begun to extract fossil reserves of groundwater. Following oil, water is now arousing a new wave of euphoria. In the present desert climate, reserves are only being partally replaced and what has collected over a period of millions of years may be used up in only a few decades.

The Garifuna are the original inhabitants of the Caribbean sea. In Guatemala alone, there are around 12,000 of them, all of which who live in the coastal town of Livingston. In this video, one of the village leaders named Philip Flores shows me around his Garifuna settlement and shares stories of a side of Guatemala that many often forget exists.
