Medical researchers at Tsinghua University in Beijing have created an AI (Artificial Intelligence) hospital town. It can theoretically serve 3,000 patients per day with a small handful of doctors and staff.

In one example of their optimism in AI, doctors for the project claim that their accuracy in respiratory illness is over 93% on MedQA datasets. Respiratory diseases such as COPD and asthma have notoriously low accuracy in diagnosis and treatment, with high degrees of false positive and false negative diagnoses.

By employing Large Language Models across large virtual populations, and soon in real-world patient populations, China can transform medicine across the whole world. China is already the world's dominant manufacturer of most generic drugs, and is the key maker of Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients for the most expensive specialty drugs. Chinese companies are also primary makers of diagnostic equipment and medical devices. With advances in AI, tested across large human populations, personalized medicine may be a reality across most of the world. The US, however, will most certainly employ regulatory and licensing pressure to ensure high prices throughout our healthcare delivery systems.

Comprehensive Conservation Agriculture Programme Namibia. 2019 | GIZ
Comprehensive Conservation Agriculture Programme Namibia. 2019 | GIZ Ambakisye-Okang Dukuzumurenyi 51 Views • 5 years ago

This video gives an introduction to Namibia's experiences with Conservation Agriculture (CA). lt shows small-scale farmers' experiences from Namibia's Northern Communal Areas as they try CA for the very first time during the 2016-17 cropping season. Conservation agriculture is a promising method for adapting agriculture to climate change. CA is based on three principles: no/minimum soil tillage, crop rotation using a variety of crops, and permanent soil cover with vegetation or plant residues. This makes it possible to increase soil fertility and improve water use efficiency. The activities are funded by the German government and the European Union, and are implemented by Namibia's Ministry of Agriculture, Water & Forestry, GlZ, FAO and others.

Ayiti: A Machete Combat Master Shares His Secrets | The Machete in Ayiti
Ayiti: A Machete Combat Master Shares His Secrets | The Machete in Ayiti Ambakisye-Okang Dukuzumurenyi 41 Views • 5 years ago

In Haiti, the machete is both a weapon and a farmer’s key to survival. This dichotomy is especially true for Alfred Avril, a master machete fencer and subsistence farmer. The traditional art of machete fencing can be traced back to the Haitian Revolution. With fewer guns than the soldiers they were battling, many slaves fought with the machetes they had used to toil the sugarcane fields. In this short film from Third Horizon, Avril shares his mysterious craft as well as the practical and spiritual value of the machete throughout Haitian history.

A medicinal plant called Artemisia annua (or sweet wormwood) has been used in China to treat malaria for 2,000 years and is still grown by farmers in Africa. But it's not approved by the World Health Organization and remains banned in a number of countries, including France. Malaria claims almost half a million lives each year and Africa is worst affected. In recent years, the mosquitoes that spread the disease have become increasingly resistant to insecticide.
