Hausa architecture of Northern Nigeria and Niger Republic

Hausa architecture is a distinct sub-style among the different Sudano-Sahelian architectural styles found throughout the Sahel-geographic band of Africa. It is mostly prevalent in the Hausaland region (North Western Nigeria and Southern Niger Republic) inhabited by the Hausawa people, but the previous popularity of Hausa architects brought it to Northern Niger and Cameroon. The one or two storey buildings are made with dry mud bricks. They are characterized by the extensive use of parapets, the stucco detail used for decoration on the facades, and the Hausa vault.

L’architecture haoussa est une branche distincte de l’architecture Soudano-sahélienne du Sahel africain. On la retrouve principalement dans la région du Pays Haoussa (Nord-ouest du Nigeria et Sud de la République du Niger), habitée par le peuple Hausawa ou Haoussa, mais la popularité ancienne des architectes haoussas l’a amenée jusqu’au Nord du Niger ou du Cameroun. Les bâtiments, d’un ou deux étages, sont construits avec des briques en terre séchée. Ils sont caractérisés par l’usage récurrent de parapets, de détails en stuc pour la décoration des façades, ainsi que de la voûte haoussa. Funeral rites forms an integral part with the culture of the Akan people in Ghana. Like myself, if you grew up within the Ashanti region of Ghana, chances are your parents regularly went away on funeral runs during the weekend, leaving you with numerous household chores that had to be completed by their return.
Though I spent most of my childhood wondering why I had to lose my beloved mother on weekends to funerals, I've come to realize that there are very good important reasons for these funeral rites. So in this video, I share with you some of the hidden meaning behind modern Akan funeral rites in Ghana. Steve Cokely (June 17, 1952 - April 11, 2012) was an American political researcher and lecturer who lectured nationally on political and economic issues relating especially to the African American community.
Steve Cokely was also a futurologist who commented extensively on water conservation, organic farming, and communal living. Cokely gave over 5,000 lectures on the topic of global warming and corporate conspiracies, the Trilateral Commission, The Bilderberg Group, Rothchilds, Rockefellers, Boule, etc.
Cokely's research delved into the history of Marcus Garvey, the Black Panthers and other areas of African-American history.
Cokely lectured at many college campuses nationally and was also known for his conspiracy theories involving the Black Male elite organization known as the Sigma Pi Phi and the Assassination of Martin Luther King Jr by the hands of Rev.Jesse Jackson and the C.I.A.
Cokely was assistant to the special committee on rules under Mayor Harold Washington. He gained notoriety when he served as special assistant to the former mayor of Chicago, Eugene Sawyer.
Cokely was criticized for teaching that Jewish doctors were using the AIDS virus in an attempted genocide against Africans. His comments created a nationally publicized controversy in 1988 and he was dismissed from his position as aide to Sawyer.
When in 1990 Illinois Governor James Thompson signed an agreement to open an Israeli Aircraft Industries plant in Rockford, Cokely was an outspoken opponent. He argued that Black leaders in Illinois should oppose Israeli war industries because of their military support for the Apartheid system in South Africa.
Cokely gained the national spotlight again in 1996 after he was scheduled to speak at "Our Roots Run Deep", a Black History Month lecture series in New York City hosted by the Warner Music Group. Also scheduled were Al Sharpton, Conrad Muhammad, Jimmy Castor, Hannibal Lokumbe and Dick Gregory. The Jewish Defense Organization objected, organizing a call-in campaign to Warner Brothers and threatening a boycott. The Anti-Defamation League and the New York Post also objected to Cokely (as well as Sharpton and Muhammad) speaking at the event. Warner removed Cokely and Muhammad without issuing a press release.

He is a member of Jamaica’s
National Council on Reparation. He played an important role in the restoration and development of “Liberty Hall: the Legacy of Marcus Garvey” working with a team led by Ms. Elaine Melbourne, Mr Vivian Crawford, and Liberty Hall’s founding director, Dr Donna McFarlane. He was a member of the Council of the Institute of Jamaica and chair of the ACIJ JMB.
