A Sumatran orangutan in Indonesia has self-medicated using a paste made from plants to heal a large wound on his cheek, said scientists.
It is the first time a creature in the wild has been recorded treating an injury with a medicinal plant.
After researchers saw Rakus applying the plant poultice to his face, the wound closed up and healed in a month.
The behaviour could come from a common ancestor shared by humans and great apes, scientists have said.

Earth and dung have been in use for thousands of years as a building material, but few houses surpass those built by the women of the Himba tribe. Like giant pots, these tiny houses they keep the occupants cool in the day and warm at night. This is sustainable green building at its best, designed to fit the environment and melt back into the landscape when the family moves on.

Paul Kagame secret master plan changed everything! Few people would have imagined that Rwanda economy would become a success story twenty-eight years ago. The country had seen an unfathomably horrific genocide, in which its most capable and educated individuals were cruelly slain. Hundreds of thousands of refugees lived in the country, which was impoverished to the point of starvation. It was landlocked, with turbulent and untrustworthy neighbors like the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and foes like Uganda.
Rwanda, against al odds, has recovered impressively from its catastrophic events. The country is ranked 49th out of 180 nations in Transparency International's annual Corruption Perceptions Index for 2020, making it one of Africa's least corrupt and stable governments. The president of Rwanda, Paul Kagame, has previously mentioned that he wishes to make Rwanda the "Singapore of Africa".
Join us in our video today, as we discuss Rwanda’s impressive economic development, and its ambition to become the “Singapore of Africa”. Be sure to like, subscribe and comment in the comment section below.

Song for Mama by Barrister S. Smooth
This is a 1987 video that Oral Ofori added voiceover to in April 2020. Ama Ata Aidoo, née Christina Ama Aidoo was born 23 March 1942. She is a Ghanaian author, poet, playwright and academic..She was the Minister of Education under the Jerry Rawlings administration.
In 2000, she established the Mbaasem Foundation to promote and support the work of African women writers..Aidoo's works of fiction particularly deal with the tension between Western and African world views. Her first novel, Our Sister Killjoy, was published in 1977 and remains one of her most popular works.
Many of Aidoo's protagonists are women who defy the stereotypical women's roles of their time, as in her play Anowa..Her novel Changes won the 1992 Commonwealth Writers' Prize for Best Book (Africa).
She is also an accomplished poet—her collection Someone Talking to Sometime won the Nelson Mandela Prize for Poetry in 1987 — and has written several children's books.Visit https://mbaasem.wordpress.com/ to learn more about her..
