This is the fuller version of the presentation I delivered at the Re-Engaging Pan-Africanism Conference at Birmingham City University, Dec 2018.

The presentation explores the relationship between Culture & Economics as an attempt to:
Rescue "culture" from reductive definitions by demonstrating the relationship between it & economic development.
Demonstrate how revolutionary movements have pursued economic development from a culturally appropriate foundation.
Its pre-recorded, but will be broadcast with a live chat. I look forward to hearing your feedback.

An estimated 20 million people are thought to earn their livelihoods in the global waste industry by collecting, disposing, repairing or repurposing a wide range of materials and products. However, the cost and consequences of handling waste are borne far more heavily in developing nations. In partnership with the Pulitzer Center, Fred de Sam Lazaro reports on the impact of waste from textiles.

Twenty years after the liberation from Ethiopia, Eritrea, Africa's youngest nation, has emerged as strategically vital to the stability of the region and the wider global agenda. Eritrea is struggling to balance the needs of its people with the perceived threats to the nation.Al Jazeera's Jane Dutton conducts a rare interview with Isaisas Afewerki, the president of Eritrea.Al Jazeera confronted him with the allegations about Eritrea's ties with Iran, Hamas, al Shabab in Somalia and rebel groups in Sudan and Houthis in Yemen."This is a deliberate distortion of facts, where is the evidence, these are fabrications, where is your evidence?", he said."How possibly could one blame Eritrea for sympathising or supporting one group over another in Somalia we have never done that." he said. When asked about Eritrea's relation with Ethiopia today and the border dispute he said: "This border issue war was a senseless conflict instigated by the US."It is a cover up for the failures of the misguided policies of the United States in the horn of Africa for the last 20 years."It is not a problem with Ethiopia we have worked with these people for almost two decades to remove a government in Ethiopia, and we want to see a relationship between Eritrea and Ethiopia based on mutual respect and common interest," he said."There is no presence for Iran in this region, Eritrea is not for sale, not for Iran, Israel, the United States or anybody," he said.

⁣You Don't Know Black History Until You've Read 'Who IZ the Boulé?: The History of America's First Black Fraternity and the Derailment Toward Afrikan Self-Reliance'

In the spirit of Black History Month, we must not only celebrate the accomplishments of our people, but also the obstacles that's made inequality still relevant today so that we may not repeat the same mistakes.

As we trod forward for ensuing generations, this means activating your critical 3rd eye asking the most important question: “Why is it taking so long for Black people to progress?"

If we are to truly be free, there must be some internal house cleaning. What you'll find at the top of the chain is America's first Black Fraternity, Sigma Pi Phi aka the Boulé.

If you haven't read this book, YOU SHOULD! And if you've already read it, consider hearing the audiobook version or even gifting a copy for someone you know needs to know!

Why is this book so important to our history? Read here: http://daghettotymz.com/rkyvz/....articles/bouleseries

Isolated by mountains, Ethiopia is a center of spirituality. Here, faith is a driving force in the lives of many. This episode explores the depths of Ethiopia's religious beliefs. In the holy highland town of Lalibela, young Kibkab Woldemariam studies each day in hopes of becoming a priest. In the hills above Lalibela, Abba Defar labours at bringing to life his vision of a cathedral hewn from mountain rock. Will Kibkab Woldemariam be rewarded for his studies with the honour of participating in the annual procession for the holy day of Timkat? And will Abba Defar ever complete his mammoth symbol of faith in the Ethiopian highlands?
