Imagine you’re building a new nation: your people have just thrown off colonial chains. But behind the scenes, a foreign agency is picking your leaders, funding rival factions, flooding your society with misinformation, investing in businessmen who owe their loyalty to another capital half a globe away. This is not fiction. This is White Malice: The CIA and the Covert Recolonization of Africa by Susan Williams. When we talk about Africa’s decolonization, we usually imagine flags being raised, anthems echoing across the sky, and leaders proclaiming independence. But behind these images of triumph, another story was unfolding — silent, methodical, and invisible. A story of spies and sabotage.Of manipulation and betrayal. A story where the dream of freedom was quietly undermined by a foreign power: the United States of America. In her groundbreaking book White Malice, British historian Susan Williams exposes the secret operations of the CIA in Africa — operations that aimed not just to influence, but to control the newly independent nations of the continent.

Malcolm X interview with Barry Gray; March 10, 1960

Malcolm X was born Malcolm Little on May 19, 1925 in Omaha, Nebraska. His mother, Louise Norton Little, was a homemaker occupied with the family’s eight children. His father, Earl Little, was an outspoken Baptist minister and avid supporter of Black Nationalist leader Marcus Garvey. Earl’s civil rights activism prompted death threats from the white supremacist organization Black Legion, forcing the family to relocate twice before Malcolm’s fourth birthday.

Melaneyes Media is an independent film company based in San Antonio, TX. We are committed to providing knowledge-based Black cultural films, projects and products relevant to the African Diaspora.

Melaneyes ( mĕl′ə-nīz )

Is a play on the term “melanize” which means to blacken, or to infuse with melanin. Melanin is the chemical substance that gives dark people our skin pigmentation.

We altered the spelling to include “eyes” because we are a film company and ultimately what we create is of a visual nature. As human beings, 70% of our sensory receptors are in our eyes so visual content affects us in a way that shapes our world view and touches our emotions.

We want to infuse your eyes with melanin (metaphorically) meaning, to blacken your vision so that you look at the world from a Black perspective as opposed to a Eurocentric view of the the world; especially as it relates to history.

Ghana's official language is English because of its colonial past.
However there are so many local languages spoken and many travellers along with those who relocate to Ghana are eager to learn a language.

Some of the most common languages in Ghana are Twi, Ga, Fante, Ewe, Hausa, and Dagbane.

I am streaming live again this weekend! We are talking about How you can learn a Ghanaian Language. On Sunday July 12 at 5pm GMT (1pm EDT) on YouTube and Facebook.

This episode I speak with Emmanuel Amoh-Obeng, CEO and Founder of the Twi Learning Centre.

Dr. Ọbádélé Bakari Kambon, who has a PhD in Linguistics and will be sharing his insight on how anyone can learn a language. He has become fluent in speaking Twi and other languages in Africa he will share in this discussion.

We also have Diallo Sumbry, CEO of The Adinkra Group and Birthright Tours. He has been organizing travel groups to Ghana for many years. He's recently organized Twi cl****es for his network of travellers interested in learning a local language.

A very heavy day filled with reconnecting to my Ancestors. We visited the Assin Manso (site of "The Last Bath" as well as 'The First Bath Of Return'), and Elmina dungeon.

We rounded out the evening strong with a special attendance of Olusegun Obasanjo, the once president of Nigeria. I couldn't capture it all on film, of course, but he has a lot of motivational words for us all that night.

In 2012, in Kinshasa, egyptologist, historian, linguist and philosopher Professor Theophile Obenga comments the Cairo colloquium of 1974 he participated in with Cheikh Anta DIOP.

In the 50s and 60s, scientific production from African researchers on the origins of peopling and civilization in Ancient Egypt triggers a controversy in the international scientific community.
The UNESCO decides to organize in Cairo from January 28th to February 3rd 1974, an international colloquium on "the peopling of Ancient Egypt and the deciphering of meroitic writing." 20 specialists and 5 observers from Europe, America and Africa, as well as 2 UNESCO representatives, were invited to the work.

With the second highest death-toll of all African conflicts, the Nigerian Civil war (also known as the Biafran war) is perhaps the single most significant event in Nigerian history. This video is an attempt to shed light on this 3 year conflict, which claimed the lives of over 100,000 soldiers and an estimated 2 million civilians as the Nigerian government led by General Yakubu Gowon fought to prevent the secession of the self-proclaimed Republic of Biafra which was led by General Chuckwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu.

Mhenga Amos Wilson: The Falsification of African Consciousness

"Our goal is to show Africa as it really is: The good, the bad, the ugly, the potential," says John Allan Namu, an investigative journalist in Nairobi, Kenya.
He co-founded Africa Uncensored, an investigative journalism collective that works to hold the government accountable and cover stories often unreported by the media.
They are working on a massive story: The government is believed to have misappropriated millions of dollars after Kenya's health minister signed a multi-million dollar deal in 2015 for what he said was much-needed hospital equipment. The government also promised to invest in the improvement of Kenya's medical services, which were seen to be especially failing the poor.
Namu had received a tip-off from a source, leading him onto the case.
"The data set that we received showed us that there are corrupt networks in many, many places. But the place we chose to focus our attention on was on the ministry of health because this is one of the president's key pillars for delivery to the public," he says.
"And it seems as if it's either has been hijacked or it was formulated to steal from this country."
They carry out their investigation, using hidden cameras to confront an official, despite fears of reprisal.
Meanwhile they feel the urgency to publish as they speak to those most affected by failures in the health system, including a mother who could not afford her cancer treatment.
Still, the team maintains their faith in the power of journalism.
"I think that they key role of journalism is that we publish the things that some people don't want published, even if that means that we are scared. Because at the moment that citizens have the information that they require to live their lives, that's when positive change happens," Namu says.
